The thinking is and i have an electronics engineer the guy who made the loom for the V8 supra i am also working on agrees. That the TB was losing track of where it was closed open how far open. its then been trying to close or open past where it should have been and stripping the plastic teeth of the gear that drives the flap open closed.
I hope you get it sorted. It's very uncommon for those things to break I think.
So its a dodgy problem.
In the old days a throttle position sensor was often a culprit for things (the sensor itself, not the wiring), but you rarely see a problem with bmw's with the sealed vdo units.

I hope so buddy. Fingers crossed its sorted as i have loads of jobs left to do!!
And Mrs Monkey has a very long list of Jobs i need to start around the house.
I have the feeling that the car mods maybe done for the rest of this year :(

Excelent I have to talk with mfactory at first. If not possible could be a good deal pay you a little holidays in spain, hehe but should be in summer ! !

Regards

So nothing has been happening with my car. The Toyota build and the news of a mini Monkey arriving in October. And the wife wanting our house finished. I cant blame her we started renovating 7 years ago!!

The Toyota is nearing completion although i haven't been helping due to house duties taking priority over spare time after making exhaust tips evenings and weekends. I have been doing lots of them and the reason. I have been spending and amassing parts for the car. I have a set of 18"mv1s for drift days bigger brakes meant i needed them. And i brought this http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=85972 of the very nice kristian663.

I also have the offer of a pre owned link g3 ECU. I am just waiting for my very competent friend Ben the ECU man from the Supra build to make sure its all compatible and working. And i need to find the cash for that!

So job list
clutch
steering
oil cooler (and s54 filter housing)
adjustable rear ARB
Fix roof motor and relocate
fit and tune new ECU

So a fair bit to do. Once thats all done the car should be ready for the turbo plans some time around 2020 the way things are going. But i suspect it will be done before the other turbo build

Need to ask a daft question... :sos:

I noticed on the first page of this thread Monkeys Gear Knob and Handbrake lever, been wondering for a while where mine came from..now I know!

Anyway, i've changed the gear knob to the ZHP version and i'm now trying to change the handbrake cover back to black....

How the beejesus do you get the cover off... :headbang:

I've found the grub screws hidden under one of the black rubber o-ring thingys..having removed them I still can't shift it.

Is there some magical method or just keep yanking at it...

ie does the button have to screw off first and then remove the gaitor and then somehow it releases the cover...at the moment it does't look attached to anything other than the handle and the buttons not moving in either direction...

Right yes i did make them. You will need to take the arm rest off. No idea how that comes off. But on the standard car you would then leaver up the arm rest pad. You would then have access to a cable tie. Cut that and pull the leather away from the handle. Then undo all the grub screws look underneath to make sure you have got to all of them. You may then have to tap gently with a punch and hammer to tap it off.

The handbrake and gear knob look great, when you bring out an automatic version I'll be first in the queue :D

If i could get my hands on a spare auto gear knob i would give it ago. I must start making them again i have the blanks made i just need a way of getting them engraved easily.

Could you not acid etch. A lot of the guys I buy stainless machinery from buy acid labels which they apply and then remove after a time leaving acid etched lettering.

Don't know where they get them from though so maybe not that helpful :(
