Machine Monkey exhaust tips question and photo request

Considering putting MM tips on the ///M, but don't want them to go on top of the stock tips.

Has anyone removed the stock tips (riveted on) and replaced them with Machine Monkey's?

Also, if anyone has any photos they'd like to share of their M with MM tips I'd be grateful

I think they look great, I was an little unsure at first but they are subtle and just add a bit more contemporary exhaust bling than the standard pipes that are almost apologetic in their presence. I

Yes they just slide over, line up to your liking and lock in

They don't just happen to be the right size, these parts and machined to size. I'm not sure if Matt is making them anymore. Hopefully he'll be along soon to comment.

Yes. The finish is a bit easier to keep clean too - just a wipe with a rag is usually sufficient to bring them back to full glory. They also have a welded nut and Allen key for securing the tip in place.

Your back boxes look a bit wonky, Tim - would sort that first!

Well I was intending to remove the exhausts to drill off the stock tips and swap them for MM ones. And hopefully put them back on a bit straighter :lol:

They are 3" 316 stainless steel tube
Cut to length
Filled to remove sharp edges
Set up on a lathe with a running steady for support and safety.
a 15degre taper is then machined on using a carbide tip boring bar. At a very low speed and feed rate to avoided the tool vibrating. This takes a bit of time with multiple cuts.

Then the spacing rings/shims are made using 316 stainless sheets of different thicknesses.
They are guillotined to the various lengths and 10mm thick
Then rolled into a circle of varying diameters
Once they are made they a made up fitted into the back of the tip.
Then Tig welded in place
Bolt holes are drilled
Taped (thread added)
The holes then counter sunk to remove any sharp edges.

Then they are wired brushed to clean up the welds.
Then polished on a polishing mop.
Cleaned with hot soap and water to remove exses polishing residue.
Stainless steel bolts added
Packaged
And sent to their owners.


It’s not a five minute job. But I have done quite a few now and i can make them much quicker. One of the reasons the price has not gone up at all for 3 years even though materials and consumables have.

OP i would be more than happy to make you a set. Even fit them and straighten your back boxes. The original tips can come off with the removal of the bumper only and a 90 degree drill attachment (i can lend you on also)

Just PM me if you or anyone else fancies a set.

I must apologize if my post came across as being dismissive of your work! Being the owner of a lathe, I was curious whether, as I suggested, there was a stainless tube that fit perfectly or, as you've described, the process is much more complex. I knew that if the tubes weren't a lucky fit then there would be a lot of fabrication involved!

They are in the simplest terms just tube made to fit and finished nicely. The was just that i found it funny.

Ok cool just give me a few weeks notice.
If we are removing the back boxes get the repair kit just in case. The flanges can break and bolts can snap.
I can also mod your old tips so they are held on with bolts instead of rivets. So you can swap them back and forth.
£90 all in

We briefly touched on this in our PM chat, but could you do one big tip and one small tip? like 3" & 2"? (I don't know what sizes would work)

Doesn't it look a bit odd if they're not concentric though? I've never actually seen close up shots of the tips fitted!
