the 8gb being sufficient is down to the usage.

Currently have chrome (7 tabs in total) with one playing full screen hd netflix on a second monitor as well as twitter open, with 16gb installed I currently have 12.09 free.

Even for photo/video editing 8 would be sufficient, just more memory allows for better multitasking capabilities.

I use Excel a lot and I hate the Mac version of Office with different menus etc. I love the Mac OS but this is a major bugbear for me.

Have you tried Open Office which allows you to save in Excel format?

No - TBH Bill I think I will just start using my work laptop more instead (a PC).

The New MBP retina is much more in line price wise, where it should have been but its still running that old cr*p intel graphics chip. The new ones are rumoured to run the new quad core haswell chip on the 13" and the new GT3 graphics chip which will be much better.

Interesting on the price drops, the 13" with retina is now £1249 that's a bit more like it. The graphics are still advertised as Intel HD Graphics 4000, will this be changing any time soon?

Got the mbp15r with 16GbRam a while back, brilliant IT works replacement laptop. Especially useful for running Windows Server VMs as can set them to run with 8GB.... leaving plenty of cpu and ram to run macOS aswell.

My only gripe is that apple and us keyboards don't like the '#' symbol.
It's a constant fumble switching between OSs, but all in all a very small gripe.

Just love the fact that I can start up my mac and have windows booted up in under 5 seconds...

With a solid state drive isnt the amount of ram much less significant?

It's a bit less significant, yes, but whereas if you ran out of RAM and the system started to use the Hard Disk your system would almost grind to a halt and run at 10% speed, with an SSD your speed would just drop to 50%... much better than with a traditional disk but still well worth making sure you have enough RAM.

thanks, I hadnt realised SSD access speed was that much slower than RAM.

Have just switched from a 2011 MBP 13 to a Retina 13 and cant believe how much more compact it is. The screen is unbelievable too - always the weak point of the predecessor. Haven't been using Macs for very long but I'm hooked on them now. Love the industrial design of the hardware and the usability/stability of OS X.

Had this for just over a week now and I have to say I absolutely love it!! It's so fast compared to my other laptop and I also got my £75 refund today from the price reduction they announced after I'd ordered it. All in all, a very satisfied customer.
