M6 alloys

OK I've just got myself a Z4 and from the beginning I was planning to replace the alloys with 19" M6 replicas.

I then called up a place and they told me it's a bad idea because i have run flats and that it'll mess up my suspension settings. Anyone have any idea if this is true?? Is there any sort of issues that i could encounter by replacing them?

Also, would I have any issues switching to normal tires?

If you're going from 16" runflats to 19" normal tyres then you'll probably notice a bit of change.

If you've got 18" runflats then the change will be minor if anything.

Lots of people on here have replaced their runflats with non-runflats without issue - mainly going for Falkens.

what actual change would i notice? is it in any way damaging and/or more costly?

my ones are 17" i believe (they are like the ones on the right car on the top banner of this site).

how about going up to 18" instead?

also, someone said i should make sure my offset is ok. what is an 'ok offset'?

cheers

Are you going for genuine M6 wheels or M6 'style' wheels?

The only thing you'll feel is a difference in ride quality. Most of the people who've gone from standard RTFs to the same size normal tyres have found an improvement in handling, ride, noise, etc.

A little of this benefit will be lost when you got to 19" tyres though.

Can't help with the correct offsets though as I've got different offsets on my Z4MC - but if you do a search you'll probably find plenty of other posts on the subject.

m6 style wheels (recommend any?).

so basically if i change to normal tyres with 19" wheels it'll cancel each other out on handling, etc! :)

but i think i'll probably play it safe and go for 18" since that's the max offered by bmw themselves.

cool thanks will look into other threads about the offset.

cheers!

Shortly after buying my Z I posted a question regarding alloys that would fit the Z4. Swami kindly provided the following link showing the various BMW alloys http://users.skynet.be/zouz/e85_wh.htm

All I'll say is that Z4M alloys fit the normal Z4 so there is a little give and take in the figures in the table. :)

Thanks! :)

the thing is i don't know what my offset should be if i get 19". from the site I have the 103 style wheels and the offset there is ET 47. Does that mean I should only get wheels with that offset or should the offset depend on the wheel? how does it all work?? Sorry, but just new to all this.

ok i think i get it now! so needs to be as close to the original offset!

found some on ebay ( 19" M6 ALLOY WHEELS BMW E46 SALOON + 235/35/19 TYRES) and when i put it in the calculator it said:

"The edge of the new tyre will be 2mm further away from the inside of the wheel well and suspension components, and 12mm further out from the edge of the bodywork."

That should be fine right?? 2mm/12mm isn't a big difference or is it???

I also found 18" ones with the same offset so would be a perfect match, but if the change with 19" is minor then i think i'd prefer to go for those.
