Hi all,

Got myself a beautiful E85 3.0 from 2004 (picture of the trouble maker is attached for
Attention ).

The car is great, however, check engine lamp keeps returning every 200km.

Until now changed coils+plugs+one cracked intake part.

Cannot detect more cracked pipes (though, cannot rule out an unseen crack).

Any ideas how to continue?

Thanks!8755CA4D-7AA1-42FB-975E-07CF307590C7.jpeg

Welcome to the madhouse.
Now I know you've checked all the pipes, but the favourite is the small convoluted pipe that comes off the inlet to the throttle body.
Then check all the inlet pipes are correctly fitted. Very easy to do a jubilee clip up tight and it actually pulls a gap open if not properly located.
Also check the sound generator. I believe the diaphragm can rupture and suck air in.

Thanks A lot !

By “small convoluted pipe that comes off the inlet to the throttle body” , do you mean this one (red arrow pointing)?

Yup that’s the wee beggar

Best smoke test it from after the Maf, pump smoke in and look for smoke appearing across the entire vaccum system across the engine all the way to the exhaust side. Check all rubber and plastic hoses, cam cover, brake booster and even the dipstick tube if yours has one, the O ring inside it has been known to fail. I sorted a 2.2 Z3 with a hard to find vaccum leak and smoking it found that the plastic cam cover had developed a crack around No 4 plug well, the plastic was degrading and starting to crumble. Used good cover fitted and that sorted the leak, car restored to good running.
