Earlier this year I bought and fitted a refurbished Vanos unit to my 2.5 E85. Wasn't worth the cost of returning old one to US supplier for a credit so always planned to refurbish it. Now completed with X8R kit which is all the seals and new bearings and washer and bolts. Straight forward job to do. Have attached photos. Can send more detailed ones if required. Bare unit was ultrasonically cleaned at my work before assembly started.
Also includes new tube of gasket sealent, 2 new plastic plugs and o rings and 2 retaining bolts (one has left hand thread) I will also throw in a pair of angle nose pliers you will need to remove plastic plugs. My car is a 2004 with 134k when I replaced it. The old pistons were very loose in the bores. It took around 150 mile with refurbished vanos to feel difference but now has got its zip back.
