A question for any of you that have done replacement Vanos seals on the M54 engine.
Do you have a recommendation for a suitable pair of bent long nose pliers or something similar to remove the dust caps from the Vanos bolts?
I have a pair that will get to one but can't get the angle to get the second, so any recommendations will be gratefully received.

Putting them back in: find a socket of the same size, little bit of grease to hold the cap on the socket and you should be able tyo push it squarely back in.
Don't forget that the little bolts uner those caps are LH thread!

Thanks gents, I've tried it once before but couldn't get the angle needed with the bent nose pliers I have, so put it back together and left well alone
I may have to buy some different pliers with longer hand grips as I think I remember that was the problem I was having.
Thanks for your input 👍

I assume you are doing this after you've jacked the engine up a couple of inches. You need to unbolt the right engine mount and lift the engine up to clear the vanos unit off the studs. This also brings the dust caps up of course and helps access to them.
