M5 vs GT-R

Autocar have decided to complete a video test of the new M5 against the 2012 GT-R, similarly priced cars so would seem like a good match, the only difference being that the M5 is a 4 door saloon.

I sometimes forget just how good the GT-R is, the only downside is the quality differential between the two cars interior
 
I saw this Sars.

By any definition the new M5 is bonkers fast (0-100 in 9 dead) & will destroy most things on the road, including all non GT/turboed 911's. But the GTR - 7.3 secs without deploying launch control !!! Incredible.
 
I was lucky enough to be taken round Croft circuit in a GTR with a pro driver, Didn't know weather to laugh, cry for help or just s**t myself. I'm sure he must have seen my eye's get VERY big as we got to the first corner, didn't bloody slow down though :cry: .
 
GT-R eh? Very cool. Don't think there are quite enough shekels in my piggy bank though.

But ... why is it that just about every car reviewer in the UK sounds sorta like a Jeremy Clarkson clone? :|

Not quite correct, the new 991 with performance options does 0-100 in 8.7 seconds, and some independent road tests have been quicker than that :)

Exactly.......that the £74k Nissan annihilates both is utterly amazing, the 911 is a sportscar with 4 seats and is in a different social league to an M5, but the M5 has pretensions and whilst its a fine car in its own right the price tag is just to high for what it is, which is £32K more than a 535 M Sport or £20k more than a 550 M Sport
 
Autocar really need to join 2012 and get some quirkier younger staff. There reviews are so dry and BORING its painfull.

Two great cars that should SO stir the blood and your left thinking nothing more than 'yeah, .....GTR looks quick'.

Not even annoying little synth noises can set it alight. They should get to the local college and grab some film students with promises of pot noodles and dope.

Haha, watch the 458 spyder video review if you want to see what "dull" really means... The bloke would be more suited to commentating on the local trainspotting convention.

Think I'd still rather have an M5 though, very little Kudos driving a Nissan :lol:.

Not sure Kudos is the right word, by definition the GT-R is the epitome of Kudos, because of what it was designed to do and has absolutely achieved, that is one of the quickest cars point to point.

It is a shame though that it's desireability does not match the performance, if the car had a BMW badge it would cost twice as much and sell 100 times better

Look at GTR residuals....

I think you'll find they are holding up better than the Porsche 997's do.

I think the GTR has massive Kudos. Maybe not with people who know nothing about cars (not including you in this Kryton - the 991s looks immense !). You know the TOWIE/Footballers Wives brigade. Those who really know their cars, the petrolheads I think have massive respect for the GTR.

It makes you wonder how Ferrari et al get away with charging £180k for a 458 Italia when a £75k Nissan will more than keep up with it. The Nissan will probably be more reliable as well.

Kudos as in the car that most people would like if they could afford one, a Nissan is a Nissan :)
 
I think you misunderstood my comment, I have absolutely nothing but praise for the GT-R and as I said as a point to point car it takes some beating and that's what Nissan wanted.

You are quite correct though, in a race from point a to b the 458 wouldn't be able to keep up with the Nissan.....just look at the comparitive lap times at the Nurburgring

Kudos - as per OED - Praise and honour received for an achievement

Without doubt the GT-R has received significant praise by the motoring world for what it does.

GT-R for me when funds permit. Could probably get one if I saved hard for a couple of years but have the silly habit of changing cars too often... :roll:
