The M5 knob is just a bit bigger then the ZHP.
It does come with a boot attached but the knob it just attached to the boot with some simple clips.

I will try to fit the boot and knob to the oem Z4 frame , but if
the M5 leatherboot is to big/small I'll just remove the knob and replace my stock knob.

Sounds like a plan! It would be great if you could post some pictures when you've finished mate, I'd really like to see how it looks

Of course I will, but meanwhile take a look at the link in my first post.

It's the exact same mod but on M3's :)

Looks like this will be the first mod, how did you get on with the F10 version?

I like the idea of spending a litlle more to get an illuminated one which was designed to be illuminated out of the box verses the ebay versions which the seller has hacked appart to achieve

I took the plunge and ordered one of these for £96

I used the new F10 boot as it is of a higher quality, it fits the E86 frame OK with a little bit of work, its not quite as tight a fit as I would like and the stiching now faces forwards (compare old to new below)

However the overal package is an improvement on the stock M knob (quality, look and function). Not sure its £96 better though!

Old which will be for sale in the for sale section at some point

That does look good.

It looks nice but it's not such a big difference to warrant the buy in my opinion. The stock one's just fine as far as i'm concerned.

It doesn't appear to look much different, but it feels much better than stock. The shorter/weight knob takes away the "rubbery" feel of the OE knob. That's enough of a difference to justify the change, IMHO. I had my doubt as well...until I made the change.

Did anybody else take the plunge on this?

I really want to order one, but am useful with anything practical so would have no idea how to fit it

Would love to hear feedback....or volunteers to help me fit it in return for some beer tokens

What are my knob options?

I would like to upgrade but would like to pull off and push on rather than having a DIY project.

Depends whether you want an illuminated one or not.

If illuminated, then it's either a custom illumination job or a custom gaiter job for the M5 knob.

If non-illuminated then the world is your oyster. There are 8-ball knobs, skull knobs, Machine Monkey knobs, ZHP knobs, you can even get a cock & balls knob, etc. etc. etc. Then there's the material: wood, plastic, leather coated, vinyl coated, alcantara coated, half leather, half wood, granite, aluminium, carbon-fibre, etc.

Some fit better than others though. The OEM ones click into place perfectly - others require 1-3 little grub screws to hold it in place (not fond of these myself as the one on my M5 when I bought it kept moving around and I ended up dumping it).

I use an un-illuminated ZHP. I was tempted by the M5 F10 shifter, but decided that for £55 less I wasn't too fussed about keeping the illumination.

Here is my thrad about the ZHP:

The modded ZHP is no longer available so the F10 is the only route for illumination...

Reviving this thread in wondering if anyone since has also had a shot at fitting the F10 in their Z? - I am going to order one today as my first present for Inty when she arrives and after paying £100, I want to make sure I don't balls it up!
