M40i Test Drive

 In the mosh pit
Took the New M40i out for a couple of hours this morning
After jumping out of the 718 Boxster the car does feel bigger right away (not sure if it actually is)
Still not sure about the looks :(
The interior is very nice place to be ,can imagine you could eat the miles up in complete comfort
At first glance the Dash and related Tech looks good and seems easy to use to anyone familiar with BMW's
Decided to take the car through Whinlatter Pass as its a regular run for us
Had the Zed in sport+ most of the time and it has a much better noise than the 4 pot Boxster
Its feels a good bit faster on the straights but not as agile through the twisties I'd guess that's not a surprise to anyone
Is it better to drive than a E89 I'd say yes !
Is it better than the Boxster imho no !

Forgot to add
Really bad tramlining on the Whinlatter road couldn't remember it being so bad in the E89 but it could be a combination of new runflats and not the best road :o

Certainly a good road to test it on!

TBF it is what it is. If it sounds good and falls somewhere between the boxster and the E89 its probably fulfilled its brief.

A number of reviewers have picked up the M40i with its much wider wheels/tyres seems to have gone too far with the sizes and the handling suffers compared to the other models that only have E89 sized tyres!

I thought I’d read somewhere that BMW ditched runflats for this new model?

Indeed, on The M40 models it’s Michelin Super Sports as standard and a compressor kit in the boot, it does tramline more than the e89 but less than the e85 with RFT’s
