M40i sports exhaust, and open up the exhaust note πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ

Evening all

Just pondering.... I absolutely love my recently aquired M40i. It's truly an incredible car, and that B58 engine is insane. The only thing I'd probably wish for is to have the exhaust note opened up a little
The 6 cyl engine sounds a little muffled (in Sport/Sport Plus), to my mind.

Has anyone swapped out the oem exhaust for a retro fit sports exhaust? πŸ€”
I was thinking of the BMW approved tuning 'AC Schnitzer' unit, although I understand there are a few quality brands that offer alternative rear units.
I don't want a stupid loud false sounding exhaust note, but a more opened up 'natural sounding' exhaust note, from that wonderful howling straight six engine

Appreciate any thoughts, and/or experiences πŸ‘πŸΌ
Cheers

looked into this too, sport plus mode is the only mode to get more sound but its not enough, feels really restricted. I contacted Miltek and another company as i wanted to retain the OEM tailpipes. I didnt have much luck as they stated they couldn't get hold of many parts. Other companies just didn't reply.

Yes....I too would like to keep the oem tailpipes, or 'shape/look' at least (if they were maybe in carbon etc...), but it looks like quad pipes only.

I've also thought of having a custom sport/race cat, to replace the oem cat. That will at least reduce the back pressure, and should in turn allow for a less restricted engine/exhaust note, but that could possibly bring along it's own issues - possibly allowing the engine to run lean and/or hotter, if the air flow is suddenly de-ristricted.
My favoured route is to look at swapping out the rear section of the exhaust, with a more open configuration - which will open up the exhaust note, without changing the oem back pressure of the exhaust system too much πŸ‘πŸΌ

You could try Hayward and Scott in Basildon. They can make or modify whatever you want. They made me a one off full system for a V8 years ago and it was excellent. Maybe they can chop off the std tailpipes and Frankenstein them on to a Schnitzer or something?

The reason why there are very few exhausts for the G29 (and all post 2018 B58 engines) is the Petrol Particulate Filter. Non-standard exhausts can bugger them up apparently!

BMW supplied their own M-performance exhaust for pre-PF B58 engines, which are valved and sound epic (I know cos I bought one). That doesn't help with the G29, though.

ACS may do one, but it will be very expensive. If you do look into it, speak to Lorcan at Rossiters (ACS UK official importer) in Snettisham. He is a really good guy and really knows his stuff. Doubt you will get a discount, though!

It's gonna be a project for next year really. I only just picked up the car (the other week...), but I like to look at my options

Many thanks for the input all πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ Keep it rolling in πŸ˜‰

Don't the kids just stick a hole in the exhaust with a screwdriver to make it sound louder :)

[ref]Nanu[/ref], 🀣🀣 Don’t want anything like a 1.2 Corsa, fitted with a drainage pipe though, just the true sound of a straight six πŸ˜‰πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ˜…

Cheaper option though

Can you not get the PPF removed?
Now there is a question!
Don't think so without major work. Then there is the matter of the MOT. :?

I'm sure it gets done a lot on M140i's, but it is possible I'm getting confused...

I remember having a 1971 MGB Roadster, with fast road cams and a straight through Peco exhaust system. You could have fun with cars 30 years ago, without worrying about particle filters and catalytic units. Engine's could breathe properly, and sound free 🀣🀣🀣🀣

I would love something to make it a bit throatier. I saw a G29 with a full ac schnitzer kit. It sounded epic.
