Hi, just an update on living with frozen grey. Still love the colour but beware if you’re thinking of getting this colour. As we all know the roads nowadays aren’t great, frozen grey or any other colour trying to keep the car away from stone chips is near impossible. Anyway back to the frozen grey. I got a stone chip, not big but bugged me so I went back to the dealer for a touch up pen, they don’t do one! So I bugged them until they relented and got their paint shop to produce a match, they don’t do a pen they said because the frozen finish comes from the last coat. Anyway they did colour code the match, as I say not a frozen finish but good enough to take away a chip down to the white primer. What I didn’t want is anymore moving forward so I reluctantly paid for PPF on the car. This I guess isn’t for everyone but it puts my mind at rest moving forward and takes away the ongoing battle with the roads. I hope it’s been of help if anyone else is thinking of the frozen colours, as I say it’s the colour for me, but no touch up, unless anyone knows different. The picture is after PPF.

i would not bother with the bmw touch up sticks, they rarely match.

Is it just the front end or the whole car (apart from boot) that’s been done? I’m wondering about having just the front done but concerned there will be a noticeable “shine” from the PPF when compared to the rest of the car. The G29 looks fabulous in the matte finish though.
Obs-com it’s all PPF apart from the boot, without PPF there is a slight more shine, I know the boot doesn’t have PPF but to be honest I’ve asked a few people if they can tell me which panel and I have to point it out to them, but I think that’s mainly because it’s the boot. It’s a difficult one I couldn’t honestly say if you only did the bonnet and front bumper that you would easily see a difference, I don’t think you would, the PPF does slightly take the sheen off. You could just do these panels and then add the others if you felt it was obvious. If it’s not a frozen colour then you wouldn’t notice. Also if you do decide to PPF really lay it on thick about making sure the pre cut PPF sheets are to the edge of each panel, it’s easy for this not to be so, just say I won’t except unless they are, as a 1-2mm gap to the edge doesn’t look good, trust me it didn’t pass my quality check on 2 panels first time round, it’s fine now and to be fair to the company they rectified it straight away.

PPF shouldn't run right to the edge... it either needs to go around the radius or short otherwise it will lift in time. i do bulk cut PPF which none of these big shops wont even attempt ( expensive and takes considerably more skill than applying templates) . If i was to run the ppf to the edge using a template the film manufacturer wouldn't warranty it if theirs a problem, which eventually it will be!

Picked up my Frozen Grey M40i on Friday. I'm not sure how I'm finding the paint so far. It looks amazing, but I'm worried about scratches and marks. A bird made a mess on the bonnet, I wiped it off using water but it looked like it had left a mark. After driving around quite a bit today, the mark seems to have gone. Is this other people's experience?
Have a look at a frozen grey e92 now after 10 years. They all look terrible, it’s paint you can’t actually look after in the real world.
How it looks in years to come is down to how you actually care and maintain the paint generally. It’s the same for all paint finishes. I have a Frozen Orange First Edition. It’s probably easier to look after than gloss finish and is much less time consuming as you’re not constantly striving for the perfect finish. Obviously, major blemishes can’t be polished out as with a normal paint finish but as long as you use the right products in the right way its quicker to clean and maintain.
I use Nanolex Final Finish matte detailer to get rid of blemishes and contamination. When I first brought the car home I used Dr Beasley’s Matte Paint Cleanser followed by a Matte Paint Coating. Very easy to apply and provides paint protection. I’ve also used Chipex chip repair kit on minor stone chips. The paint match is good and think they do it in grey?
Frozen Orange And Grey looks fabulous on the G29. The car really suits the matte finish IMO.
