So I'm due to go on a course in Oxford all day Friday, jumping on the M40 from Uxbridge (West London) It starts 9-9:30am. What's the traffic like that way around 7ish? Just trying to plan when to leave. Feel free to spot me.

The A4o coming into Oxford can be quite congested. And oxford itself is not car friendly busy slow moving. And an annoying one way system in the center stopping you from going the way you want. Where abouts in Oxford roughly i might be able to help out?

Ahh, I love Oxford. Lived there for two years back in the late 90's just off the Iffley Road near Magdelen College and the river. Happy days - although I seem to remember traffic was fine from London until you hit the Oxford Ring Road, then got knarly - but that was 15 years ago!

i've done some of this journey a lot of times (n london to M40 onw)... when i go from my parents to work (Midlands) or to my outlaws (in Birmingham)
The M40 is normally perfectly clear going out - much more traffic inbound. The hardest part is getting to it at 7am - i tend to take the back roads to get on the A40 instead of going on oxford road direct to the M40 roundabout.

I'm going to leave at 7:30am. I hate being late. Registration is 9-9:30 then course starts at 930 so should be ok. On to Solihull after at 5pm..think that may be worse.
Hahaha you will have to suffer Birmingham like I do weekly for work. Who'd wanna go there eh 
The M40 itself is normally fine during the day unless there has been a crash, even during commuting hours. There is currently a 50MPH section though due to some bridge works which may cause some congestion but I've yet to see it do so (I do my commute at 5am though not 7am).

Try and avoid the A34 getting back to the M40!!
Have a look on a map or put it into your nav try the A44 towards Woodstock. Then right 3rd exit from roundabout onto the A4095 then a litle right left still on the A4095. Left turn towards Kirtlington follow that to the B430 and then onto the M40 its a good fun road

You're lucky as the Solihull exit is before it gets really snarled up. I have to follow the damn thing right to the point of the M6T when all he'll let's loose and everyone hits to get their value for money. (Except me of course )

Forgot about that he Tommo is correct.
Ive never had issues getting there although I do tend to be arriving slightly later than you.
I've always had trouble getting out though, piled up at 5 onwards.
