Had a M4 out yesterday for a wee test drive. Well what can I say, fantastic ! Loved it,sounded great handling is fantastic perfectly balanced & brakes were amazing. Drove it sensibly for a wee while too & it was returning 31mpg,that didn't last long as I wanted to have fun & I certainly had that then returning 18/19 mpg. But after having it all day I think it's a car you give live with as a daily driver. Dropping the kids off & then on to the track or a nice wee road trip. Defiantly on the list when go to change the zed. My sons learning to drive at the moment so he loved it,a bit more power than his 1.2 polo.20f63551ef7ce797e40df05de78f98b3_zpsf885c498.jpg7349f7608bae6cb46f325367a8a8d4c7_zpsf5e6ea8e.jpg25f5feb6a775af00434b666c7db56277_zps02750377.jpg68c4ac1c314f8aaddb66856524ffeef0_zps5779198d.jpg88650c2be4ff62a2831fe5731fa7bedd_zps338e700f.jpg

I was similarly impressed when i had a tootle out in one recently , looks a little "ordinary" in black though compared to the Austin yellow i tried
Those seats don't look the same either ? Did it have the HUD on it ? That was a very nice touch

Yes it had the HID fantastic. Got it on our 640 too it's better on the M. It was there demo car. They have a Austin yellow I don't like it at all. Not to impressed with the colours available on the M4.

Deleted the pics i took now but i thought the seats had extending under thigh bolster on the car i tried ?
The back & side bolsters look the same but the seat part looks pretty basic in a 318se kind of way

No thigh bolsters in these, but totally different seats to a standard m sport

I would imagine these would make a great daily driver and be far more rewarding than the previous model in that regard as I pretty much hated my old V8 M3 as a daily it was such a frustrating car in that environment(very little low end torque/only quick above 6k revs) I also didn't think much to the launch colours of the M4 but I have read that most of the colours look better in the metal rather than photos though.

I would like a test drive of one of these because from all of the videos I have seen I have been disappointed by its exhaust note from outside but I would imagine its far better in real life.

Thanks for sharing the experience/pics. :)

Cool your boots- was only kidding- just always had the 'crumb catchers' ie sport seats in my bmws (admittedly not M cars)

Lee I think the noise outside the car is better than the noise within. In my opinion, BMW will have to find a way of making M car turbos sound great though. I don't think this hits that mark. Having said all that, I agree with Kermit and Mr Wilks - it is an awesome drive (although I drove the M3 rather than 4).

Sorry paddy that wasn't aimed at you. Couple of mates last nite, same statement Not real Mcars ! They've been in a couple of Mcars &'come out with that pish ! They Read too many magazines. On the seats, thought they were excellent they didn't have thigh bolsters but not a problem. Held us in well & they were required :D

I took the M3 out for a blast a few weekends ago.

I have to admit it was an amazing car, and if I wanted a daily for doing a lot of mileage, it would be spot on. Everything was superb with it.

But, for me with my current requirements, it was too perfect and being completely honest, too fast to enjoy properly.

I think cars are generally getting better on paper, but the driver is getting further and further away from the driving experience. I haven't thought about it once after that test drive without looking at something like this thread.

Does anyone else think cars are getting too perfect, that they are starting to lose a bit of their charm?? The new M3/M4 being a prime example of this?

Rob, think your right, cars are too advanced now. Don't think that's a bad thing,we all think we can drive will Hamilton ! But we can't. M4 did rain me in a few times & that was maybe a good thing. Salesman was out in Istanbul with BMW on the track with trained racing driver. He was telling me driver turned everything off & went for it. He said it was bonkers :D saying that don't think I would do that on the roads up here, full of holes.

Really agree with this and it was one of the big things I noticed about my E92 M3 they are just so grown up and seem to be built as a GT car nowadays and almost exactly like a 5 series in feel, don't get me wrong they can entertain if you switch all the electronics off but they are built now for a different buyer I think and to get true driving thrills you have to look lower down the range in say a M235i or the up coming M2 maybe.
