M4 in Detroit

There have been plenty of pics knocking about already but these latest pics from Detroit are in my view amazing. BMW styling hitting the spot for the first time in a few years (considering all the random x / i / etc) I hope it comes across a bit more animal than the last.

That rear shot, reminds me of the CLS revaty8u.jpg

Not frozen - but it is solid rather than metallic. Can't remember the name but it's lovely. Same colour as my M4 8)

Looking good, but is the USA not using the M4 name, instead going for M3 Sedan?

The blue one IS an M3. 4 doors :poke: :D

Ahh I see! So to get this right, BMW have decided to also make a 4 door version of a model which was meant to be a coupe, like the 6 series 4 door?! So in effect there is no point naming the range M3 and M4 :?

Andrew.

It amuses me why people struggle with the whole 3-series/4-series thing.

3-series is a 4 door saloon
4-series is a coupe version of the saloon.

They've been doing it for years with 5/6 series!!

Why so difficult to understand? :scratchhead: :idunno:

Not sure about the 5/6 series reference... They are nothing like each other, never have been ?

Ah but they are very similar mechanically and share more or less the same underpinnings don't they? M5 and M6 for example...why else would one be £25k more expensive than the other!

I meant really that odd numbers have been saloons, even numbers coupes historically for BMW. 6-series, 8-series etc and now 4-series and 2-series.

I think it makes more sense to split them out like this audi have been doing this for ages too (a4,a5 and now a6 vs a7)... Just a shame audi and bmw couldnt speak to each other first so both have odd numbers as saloons and even numbers as coupe's!

I personally like the 4 series and am seriously contemplating putting an order on one to replace my Z.

Sorry, ignore me at this time in the morning. For some reason I was thinking the M3 was the coupe, and the M4 was the saloon. I'm now awake and realise my mistake! Although I still think they should have named it this way!

My dad's looking to order a 435d M Sport, at which point it may well be goodbye to my zed :( and hello to his current 335d M sport coupe :driving:

Speaking to a dealer the other day one of the things BMW are trying to achieve is making the range easier to understand, hence the split of the 3/4 series and obviously now the 1/2 in the same way.

Personally love the look of the M4, but to be honest not quite so sure on the M3...

I second this as I have owned a M3 Coupe & two 3 series saloons & I just don't like four doors very much & two doors are so much better...four doors are handy if you own a Taxi but they look rubbish on anything else!

I would rather put up with a tiny bit of faffing to get my daughter in the back seats of a Coupe rather than look like a Taxi driver with four doors!
