I've been searching high and low for the right 981 Boxster for a few months now but nothing is coming up that matches all my criteria.

More recently I've been drawn to the M240i 'verts you get a lot more for your money than you do with the pork and I'm sorely tempted. Anyone have one? Any good? For my budget of £26k I've seen quite a few good'uns with very low miles and main dealer warranties.

Interested in hearing experiences.

Think "swiftly" has one :?

Unless you needed the 4 seat option or you wanted a almost new car why would you choose one over a 35is :?
Compared with investing your ££ into a 981 Box i think you would soon realise your mistake  one being a true drivers fully fledged sports car , the other not .
Testdrive both has to be the way forward , then get a 35is for almost £10k less :P https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=116006

Don’t do it. My neighbour has one and I’m truly amazed how ugly it is. Front, back, side, it all looks crap. It does sound nice though

:D there is that slant on it :P

Also, it feels like a girls car....whether that's right or wrong, you do tend to see most 2 conv driven by the fairer sex. If you can afford the 981 then buy a lower spec one of those IMO

Definitely considering 4 seats as an option so I can take the kids out together, but it's not a certainty I'll go for that. I'm just considering options at the moment.

My Z4 days are numbered. Just not gelled with the e89 at all sadly so wouldn't consider another.

SWMBO has a 220D convertible.
It's actually quite a nice motor, but in a feminine 'it'll do' kind of way.
After driving my 335D Touring all week I do find hers turns in a lot better, due to the lack of X-drive and less weight at the front I suspect.
But, whilst it is a decent motor for lazy top down summer days (car, not wife!), even she crazes me to get the Z out instead.

Only reason to buy a four seater is, you need four seats. Otherwise it's a compromise car.

Used to have the 240 coupe, I really enjoyed it, the b58 engine is awesome, effortlessly quick. It made a great daily but didn't have much in the way of special feel if you know what I mean. If you wanted it more for a fun car I'd have a look at an m3 convertible to be honest.

I’ve got an m140i

Nice car and fast enough...but cold
So cold 8 months later I’m looking at getting rid of her...

I still lurk from time to time :D

Potential replacement is a Vantage N430...just trying to get the man maths in my head to work...
Hope you’re good?!

Not feeling the love for the 240

They’re good cars if that’s the kinda thing you’re after
But genuinely I find mine a little dull unless I’m flooring it by then you’re going too fast

No idea on the 240i but the 140i is a cracker alrounder car, if you want dull in the same segment there's the Golf, A3 etc, I would have the 140i everytime. People forget how good it is as a day to day car, end of the day its a run of the mill hatchback albeit with a peachy engine and powertrain, its no Porsche, Aston Martin etc and character is subjective. Problem is characterful cars tend to be compromised, good at one or two things, poor in others with no overall balance.

If money no object, 140i for everyday and something special for the weekend.

Tim.

Had one for 9 months. Very good all round car. Very very good in fact. Quick, sounds good and i was getting circa 35mpg.

But, as a weekend blast mobile its sense of occasion isn't what the Z4M is. And not a patch on a 981 either.

I’m two weeks away from picking up my 240i and after the test drive I can’t wait :driving:
everyone has a different opinion on what they like in a car if you like it buy it,
And as its been said it’s not going to be a sense of occasion car like my old Z4MC was, and remember
It’s not an M2.
Will review soon

Are you sure you can't consider another Z4? My E89 35iS is coming up for sale shortly and it would be much nicer than an m240i.

My daily (or at least what I use when I have to drive in the wet so won't take the zed out) is a 2016 3 door M135i. You make a very good point there - it can be a bit dull, or just a nice car, unless you really get on it. At that point, you really are taking the p*** with regard to speed limits and other road users.

Another downside is that compulsory excesses have recently gone up a lot, which I think is because too many people are modding and crashing them or having them stolen (at a guess). That said, there is a strong scene for upgrading them so you could certainly make it feel more special, but why you'd want to make it faster for road use (other than bragging rights), I don't know.

I actually wanted a M235i, but my timing and availability meant I got a 1 instead. I might keep it for a long time because as a practical but occasionally fun proposition it's hard to beat. It wouldn't last long if it was my only car, though.
