Great vid. The M235i really is a brilliant car, they are very different and rightly so the CSL very very special, but the fact a standardish road car can do a lap at in the same time is impressive I'm sure with the 7 speed auto it would be a touch quicker.

For you purists an 11 year old M3 CSL with 21k on the clock bouncing off the red limiter :poke:

What they were made for :driving:

Great vid, but 11years in car development time is an age in itself.
The CSL sounds great though, that evolve cf intake is creeping back up the wish list :)

...and have to say those CSL wheels still look sharp

He's driving the m235i much harder than the cls judging by the video.
The m235i is all over the place and he's visibly braking harder (you see the front end wobbeling).
So if he has to do all that to match the time, it's clear that there is some time left in the csl.
The extra 85kg is probably the biggest difference on the track I imagine.

still, with the m235i bmw is back on the road to making drivers cars.
I think you can get it with an optional mechanical lsd (that used to be an available option (or standard equipment) for almost every bmw model in the 80's and early 90's)

Love the CSL! not sure you'd get into a 21k example for £30-35k as he suggests though.

I'm surprised it was even able to tick over being such a low mileage example....thought the engine would have seized by now

Ye you wouldn't be buying a perfect example for that money.

But for what its worth the M235i was designed primarily as a fast road car not a track oriented road car like the CSL so it is incredibly impressive.

Got a huge soft spot for the CSL, beautiful, sounds amazing and the epitome of BMW. Such a shame it only came in SMG. You can hear how slow it is!

I think an LSD is available through the M performance accessories, the 2M is going to be a great car!

That was a very god run by the M235i! I do wonder though, did the CSL show up with the OEM semi-slick tires? Michelins Pilot Sport Cups to be precise. Even though the Michelin Supersports the M235i runs are also great tires the aging Cups are still quicker than them on the track. Either case that was a good video. Also love the CSL and even though it didn't manage to trounce the M235i i still rate it!

At speed these Mlites get pretty out of shape when they are hurled around some corners or meet a less than perfectly smooth road. The CSL is so different to drive that video, as entertaining as it is doesn't even paint half the picture. Seriously, these cars are night and day to drive despite what any lap times say.

PS. The auto in the new cars is 8 speed.
