Cue the usual confusion about model line ups from the Z4 crowd.
The 2 series is what the 1 series coupe is now called
The 4 series is what the 3 series coupe is now called
They are both new versions of models that already existed with the names changed to try to make it easier for people (going by internet chatter it's actually confused more people).

I'm neither up nor down about it's appearance. Front looks better than the 1 series but the rest looks more or less the same as the previous 1 series coupe and that never looked quite right to me. It was too narrow and tall as my eye always compared it to the proportions of the 3 series coupe.

The range is so immense now its barely worth commenting on anymore. I'd be interested to see a few more pics before I make up my mind but it does look a little stunted in those pics. Reminds me of the old 3 series 'compact'.

It certainly looks more agreeable than the M135i, I am quite looking forward to this as I am looking into getting a lighter more nimble car as i think my M3 just is carrying far too much unneeded weight, the M2 could be very interesting indeed.

It seems they've learned their lesson on the headlamps at least. Rid of those fugly 1 series headlamps. Its half way in design too, 1 series has a lot of flat/open bodywork on the front. The 3 series is chopped lines where headlamps meet grilles etc. The 2 series seems half way in between with more open bodywork than the 3 series (in details) but not as much as the 1, headlamps are still 1 series large but more akin to 3 series style without the join to the grilles. Seems they've taken the '2' series quite literally, as is the german way, and the style really is a mix of 1 and 3 series.

Don't like the straight bonnet line above the roundel - looks to abrupt!

Will wait for the M2/2M to come out I think :P

It's common across the whole range and indeed a lot of other cars that had the bonnet opening on the upright. It's something to do with a Euro Ncap pedestrian safety regulation that came in a few years ago. Mercedes also had to change. VWs, Audis etc have always opened on the horizontal surface of the bonnet so no problem for them.

Better shut line tolerances required perhaps... Perhaps that will be another thing they get from the Toyota partnership... Lexus shut lines lol

I quite like it. I bet it won't have an LSD though....that'll be kept back for the full fat M version.

It will be interesting to see what extra the M2 offers because one could assume, that for the first time, the M2 will be on sale at the same time as the M135i/M235i. I suspect it will be around 80-100kg lighter, around 360bhp, LSD etc. Those slots between models and ranges get narrower though, especially as the new M3/4 is going to be around 430bhp and 1,500kg.

The M135i design team have been doing question and answer sessions on Facebook and they have said that an optional extra/M performance pack extra diff is going to be made available for both models.

I think the M versions of either car will be a case of lighter, improved handling, more power and please god give it better steering. I obviously can't comment on the M235i as it's not been driven but the M135i does come apart a bit at speed on uneven road surfaces. It's a bloody fast car but it can get a bit wooly on the good old British B roads.

I like the looks of it and some of the additional photos on the web in profile show it not to look too cropped. The front end is so much better than the current 1 series - cue a facelift ( sorry LCI) sometime soon.

Pity the interior will ape the 1 series , but an M2 looks promising

liking that alot more than the 1 series...

having driven the M135i a couple of time recently, betting the M235i will be awesome :D
