For me personally I think the M235i is the complete all rounder as a daily and a very good package and I certainly would love one, the Z4is is my fave too so I don't think you would be disappointed either way to be honest.
Haven't actually tried either, but if you need extra seats would probably take the 235i over the 4 series, both come with sunroof options which is nice to see. The 235 also gets great handling reviews.
But if you defo want 2seater then obviously z4 e89 or why not try a z4mc for something different
I had a M235 for a couple off days before I ordered my z4 35is. Check my posts.Great car, very quick & handling was amazing felt it was on tracks. Nice noise off it too. Almost bought it but missed my convertable. Just felt it wasn't special enough ! Didn't like the 18" wheels. Glad I choose the z4, but in saying that if you need 4 seats it's a great car
M235i here. Being the newer car and having a bit of M DNA it just drives better. BMW have made a step forward with getting the balance between firm/sporty and comfortable on the F series cars in my opinion. In the right colour and with a few choice M Performance options the M235i looks great.
So got lots to think about. Thank you for advice. Guess I need to test drive the Z for a better idea. M235i was awesome and with the Perf exhaust was pretty loud >
Ok, so if you like looking at your car get the Z4. if you like driving it get the M235i.
Best idea might be to get the M235i and pin a little picture of a Z4 to the top corner of the windscreen so you can look at it while you enjoy your drive
Adamski, I think the zed indeed looks better but I think the 2er is a better all round car, 4 seats etcetera and that what draws me to it as a possible next car

The 35is comes with basically the same exhaust as the bmw m performance one and it's standard on the car and not an extra but only on the is. It sounds amazing!
I have to say I loved my 135i vert I had, best of both worlds and although I didn't use the 4 seats 99% of the time, it was nice to have the space to take a few more people in the car and once the boot was full I also had the back seats! And being a rag top you get more boot space with the roof down, although the Z4 isn't too bad to be honest. If you did consider the M235i vert then it's not too noisy for a rag top, well the 135i wasn't anyway.
Both excellent cars BUT if your talking buying new the 35is is coming to an end soon so your mind maybe made up for you.
