M1 for sale at Munich Legends

This car has classic written all over it whether you like the looks of it or not. They were made in 1978, had a somewhat chequered history due to an aborted JV on it with Lamborghini and then had it's own 1-car race series (M1 pro cars). Add in to that it was the first ever road going M car too and BMW's only attempt at a Supercar so far (i8 excluded). All adds up to an important piece of motoring history, hence the increasing values. I'd stick one of these away in a long-term collection in the blink of an eye if the right one came up and I had the necessary resources to buy it.

As an investment this, but to drive C GT!

I wouldn't have much interest in this if I planned to drive it.

Was exactly my thoughts.

Yes it's a piece of motoring History and that should make it a safeish investment, as cars go. But I don't think i'd ever want to drive one.

Give me a 30k 308. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I buy my cars because I like them, without much thought for thier future value.

And yes I know the 308 has a chassis from a farm cart.

It depends what you want to get out of a car. Personally, pretending I'm a race car driver of a precision machine when I'm out for a Sunday hoon has never been my bag. My personal connection with a car has always been centred around the experience and story that car offers me.

No the M1 won't beat a CGT in a straight, curvy or any other type of line and yes it's an old car and not as modern, safe blah blah blah: but for me that's the point. The M1 represents a slice of history that I find fascinating. Pretty much the reason I bought a 16 year old E36 M Coupe actually.

£300k is a lot of money but as has already been said it's about what that car is worth to somebody like me that relates to it, doesn't want a modern Porsche and has the means to do so.

I'm with you on the 308

Is n't life good that we all have different tastes and ideas of worth :D I would only say don't buy anything you plan to enjoy with investment in mind, as for the car no thank you but I appreciate its history, but for me well in dollars $300.000 Patek Phillipe would float my boat. Horses for courses

Not really as you don't buy a house then not use it.

If you used this classic, it would reduce your investment return.
