So a question to the M owners, which engine oil do you use.? Does everyone stick with the recommended oil or has there been any updates for this engine.?

I did trying searching but it came back with 630 different threads :headbang:
 
A lot of folk are using the new BMW recommended which I believe is Shell but I have just bought Castrol edge for my six monthly change.

The BMW approved oils all hit the same standards as many other premium oils but are also meant to last longer than some others.

Others choose Millars nano tech (Mr Wilks for one). This is meant to be a good oil but doesn't have the longevity of the BMW oils.

I think as long as you change it often / as scheduled or better then most of the premium brands will do a good job.
 
I did switch to Millers on the ///M but not on a whim , ive used it for many years & imo its top stuff where it needs to be , cold start & hot running , regardless of longlife or not with any vehicle i would always change oil yearly or 6-8k whichever came first

Wasn't suggesting a bad choice. I think the most important thing is to change the oil on a regular basis and that it hits the manufacturers specification requirements which all the premium fully synthetic do as far as I know. The ones I checked all did anyway.

I'm only doing about 2000 miles a year but I'll definitely change it yearly :thumbsup:

You need six litres for a change.

i also switched to Millers for the gearbox oil , not quite 2 litres needed for that iirc
Strangely RE the Millers i visited a forum member not long back to collect some wheels :roll:
He doesn't post here much but has had his M roady a while , we got to talking fluids & he also was a big Millers fan who had changed all fluids over to it as soon as he got the car
 
I'm using the BMW recommended oil which is now Shell. I change my oil myself once a year.
 
BMW new twin turbo shell stuff

But I wouldn't mind doing box with millers as it doesn't like 4th until warm

Italian cars are worse
Mazzer won't going into 2nd till warm!
Old Ferrari had a light to say ready for all gears :)
 
It should be noted that Castrol edge you can buy now (which I am using) is actually a new improved version but Castrol have chosen to retain the name for marketing purposes.
