The BMW approved oils all hit the same standards as many other premium oils but are also meant to last longer than some others.
Others choose Millars nano tech (Mr Wilks for one). This is meant to be a good oil but doesn't have the longevity of the BMW oils.
I think as long as you change it often / as scheduled or better then most of the premium brands will do a good job.
