m tyres again

I'm up to 20,000 miles on my PSS and still got 4mm all round. Used as my daily drive.

They are on OEM 18" wheels, 225/45 at front which is standard fitment size and 265/40 at rear which is a little larger than the standard but there are no issues with this size at all.

20,000 Miles and still life left in them, you don't deserve an M..........Ha ha :poke:

My rears last almost that, and the fronts last double the rears.

They don't slide/overheat as easily as the Contis, so if you drive at the same level as with the Contis you'll get less wear. If you drive at a higher level now that you've got more grip, then you'll still get less wear than the Contis.

It's a win-win

I managed nearly a thousand miles out of my last set of PS2s on the front but that was purely track use

Been there :headbang:

Used to get 1 airfield day (about 150 miles) or 3 proper circuit days (450 miles) out of a set of part-worn P-Zero Corsas on the e34 M5.

well i have now driven about 50 miles on the new pilot super sports, cant believe the difference in ride, as i went a size wider the aspect ratio means the sidewall are a touch higher,... its made the rear a bit less crashy, and with the more neutral alignment it now has sharper response and turn in with less feeling of understeer if you go in a bit quick. pulled camber pins to get a bit more negative camber up front, reduced camber a little on rhe rear to hopefully help them wear less on the inside edges. the m handles beautifully now, to anyone cosidering pss's , i can reccomend them highly. one size up, together with 10mm spacers fill the arches really well. money really well spent :driving:

Guys, what's the general consensus on M tyres then? Stick to OEM or go upto 265/40 on the rears?

I need some new ones soon, so need to decide.

Do you need to run spacers with the 265?

Is it only aesthetics that are different, and the speedo? Or will the ride change? Does anyone have a picture of an M Coupe on 224s with standard suspension with 265/40 and one with OEM?

Can't decide what to do, but will need to order soon!

I'm on standard (but 120k mile old) suspension, with no spacers.

I'm on my 3rd set of Supersport rears and have stuck to the 265/40 option. Other than a slight cost saving, I can't see the point of going back to 255s.

Ok great thanks. I am assuming you upped the front too? Are they ok to on the fron without any issues.

Might give them a go. Its a hard decision because mine is a daily that doesn't really get thrashed, so the tyres will probably last a fair while, and I don't want to spank a load of cash on the wrong tyre.

Don't suppose you have any pictures of your setup do you? I have seen Exodus pictures of his, but I think he is running ACS Suspension.

cornish rob, when are you in cornwall, Have a look at mine with 265/40 18 and 235 /45/18 pss with 10mm h and r spacers, perfect , just fills the arches better ,no rubbing issues, better ride and handling. i guess a 10mm lowering spring would be the ultimate but i wouldnt want to go lower personally. trouble is i have never seen a 10mm lower spring they all seem to be 20 to 30 mm.and i cant stretch to kw's yet.

I kept the fronts at the standard 225/45r18 as they last twice as long as the rears and didn't have any undue understeer anyway.

Great many thanks for them.

How come you didn't up the fronts then to keep them the same as the rears then? Would they rub without spacers then or was there another reason?

Didn't feel I needed to as I don't generally seem to drive in a manner which creates the amount of understeer that everyone complains about.

I'm also not sure the bigger size was available when I started buying the SuperSports, so never bothered looking again.

When I was buying Michelin PSS's the 255/40/18's weren't available so I went up to the 265's. The front 225/45/18's were available so I got them.

Great, thanks guys.

So just to be sure, can someone confirm that the 235 up fronts will be fine to fit with standard suspension without the need for spacers without any rubbing?
