talking to a friend of mine who is a police chase driving instructor and police pursuit vehicle evaluator, he told me that the dsc on the m is still partially on even when its off, general concensus of opinion on the forum is that unlike the non m's , when its off its off totally, this is also reitterated in the m handbook. he says it is now illegal for manufacturers to enable dsc to be disabled completely. is he misinformed ? I must say that when i have turned off dsc I still find it hard to unstick the back end,the m diff though allows the car to come alive with dsc off by getting so much more power down, the exceleration out of a corner is dramatically different with dsc off, when its on it just dumps power way too much. any views ? :driving:
 
I think if you asked Z8cookie he would tell you off is definitely off. Maybe in other cars, especially Mercedes, it stays on in the background, but I would be surprised if it stayed on in the M.

I'm certain that the traction control is either on or off in the ///M. You're right mad4slalom, the car comes alive with DSC off :evil:
In my Audi TT it was impossible to turn off the traction control completely. It's not even like it needed it :headbang:
 
Once it's off, it's off! Not sure about it being illegal - I reckon that's crap. Not every car even has a traction control system, and as far as I am aware it isn't a legal requirement is it? So how do you turn something off that isn't there?

I think it is a legal requirement now. Even the other half's 68bhp Toyota IQ has it!(?)

From what I recall on the e89, even fully off isn't fully off. Like you say though, perhaps given we're talking M in here that things are different as BMW expected you to whiz it around on a track back when it wasn't a legal requirement?
 
What about cars that dont have traction control?

I know my old s2k was a death machine in the wet due to the lack of it.

Shame that thread doesn't have a working link to the video anymore...I watched it once or twice when it did and REALLY want to watch again!
 
I am glad this question was posed as I was about to ask the same thing. I took my Zed out for some "fun and games" in the snow covered car park a few days ago (as a kid does!), and even though I turned the DTC off, it seemed to still kick in and not allow me to have complete fun. It did allow a lot more slip than when it was on, but still not completely off. So it appears to me like you cannot completely disable it? (I have a 2003 model 2.5)

It's a different system to the M.

You have DSC and DTC. Both only go off when you hold the button for 10 seconds.

Herminator is right, DTC showing on the dash in a non-M is intermediate, activated by a single short press, which is designed for wet / icy / snowy / low traction situations. You need to hold the button until the triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle and an arrow round the outside comes on. Then it's all the way off. Not been brave enough in a big enough space to do that yet. It does go all the way off though, as the choking bikers will attest to on our last meet when Taz fried his tyres :lol:

It's because it's a form of Flash movie (Shockwave in fact) and iOS doesn't support Flash.
