M suspension vs non M

I've recently joined the M gang and I've been quite surprised by the suspension. It really seems to handle the lumps and bumps a lot better than my old e85 3.0. The ride is a lot more comfortable.

So my question is, what is the difference in parts used between the two.? I'm guessing all the mounting points are the same.!
 
Don't forget the larger profile on the tyres, this has quite a positive effect to ride quality.

Do you think it's all down to the tyres thou.?
 
Tyres make a huge difference Yorkie Z when I had M tyres on my 224's it was a lot better than when I changed to non m sizes

No, mounting points arent the same as both the front and rear suspension is different. Mounting points in the chassis are the same (chassis itself is the same), but the wheel geometry is different. So there are different subframes, suspension arms etc. No huge differences (the basic design is very similar), but different enough to have different wheel geometry and different track width (actually the normal z4 has on the rear a larger track width suspension wise, so the z4m compensates this with a different ET value in the wheels)
And the sway bars on the z4m are a lot thicker.
So all the suspension arms, shocks, springs and swaybars are different in detail (thus also different part numbers) but similar in design.
Also the z4m is heavier (cast iron block, bigger brakes etc), and heavy cars sometimes can feel more comfortable.

Also the age of the shocks can make a big difference. Old shocks can dampen less or different, even if they arent weeping.
The same goes for the age of suspension bushings etc.
 
I test drove an e85M and my 3.0si almost back to back... The M seemed harsher to me...but absorbed the bumps/ road sound better... But i always put that down to the tyres (the M had nrft and my Z at the time was stock bridgestones)

So i would say its a combination of the milage on the shocks and the tyres profile.

'M-sport' suspension on a non M is just different springs and dampers compared to the standard set up. The M uses different suspension componentary (not just springs and dampers) as explained by Guido.
