//M Strut Brace as standard?

Ive got an //M and it came with the back two triangular bits under the bonnet but a Schnitzer cross peice - is this replacing a standard cross peice or isnt there a "cross peice" on the M?

I.e. width ways across the engine bay?
 
Because they dont allow mods...

And trying to explain to telesales person what a strut brace is is also quite difficult!

This is swift insurance btw.

I think their reasoning behind this is that certain mod's are done statistically by people who drive fast and therefore statistically are more likely to crash! Also may make the car more desirable to steel/damage! :|

I wonder if you could get away with the BMW strut brace seeing as it's something that BMW make for that car?

If you ordered a Z4 with the aero kit and strut brace, it would be factory fitted and I bet they wouldn't bat an eyelid! The people on the other end of those phones wouldn't know the difference between a strut brace or a turbo!! :rofl:
 
Shirley if it was an optional extra fitted from new, then you wouldn't even need to declare it. Ie, it's like declaring your car has been modified, by BMW M GmbH, from new... oooo, we can't insure that sir :headbang:
 
For most companies, you now have to declare all factory fitted extras as well.
 
I'd take it off anyway, as it does very little for the coupé - plus it just adds weight :P

Would be kinda hard for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th.... owners to know what was factory fitted or not though :?

It's a joke, the best thing you should have done is said nothing about the strutbrace.

What about your exhausts then mate? They are mods? :headbang: These insurance companies will do a few things so they don't have to pay out so don't give them an excuse.
 
Exhausts are OK! As long as they are stainless steel.

They wouldnt be replaced if stolen/damaged however. The car would be returned to factory standard.

I wouldnt take the chance at not informing the insurance company. But i agree, it can be trying in exlpaining the mod you have done to an insurance rep.
 
Man, auto insurance is an even bigger rip off over there than here (and here it's a necessary evil, grrrrrrr)
 
I took the strut brace off when i realized they wouldnt cover it - it said when applying that they dont need to be informed about exhaust mods.
 
Say nothing and take a risk or only fit it when you might need it - a trackday or whatever. However, I've done UK track based driver training and over 300mls on the ring and it was the std conti tyres that gave in; over heated and began to loose grip. Everything else ran like a dream - including brakes. Can see the point of a brace but I'm not sure I would be able to realise the benefit 99 times out of a 100 IYSWIM.
 
TO be honest i'll probably keep it and flog it with the car as a "bonus".

Alternatively use it as an ad hoc "zimmer frame".
