M steering wheel

Just this moment fitted my M steering wheel by following the how to on this just wanted to say thanks for posting it and pics too more than helpful, onward to the next project now. Cheers Steve

Nice work. I also fitted mine today but the buttons aren't working
I've taken it off again and checked all the plugs are in and still nothing, I guess your's worked first time?

MrGringo - is yours a facelift car? I've been waiting for someone else with a facelift car (I can't be 100% sure from your sig) to do this mod as I did it a while ago and have the same problem!

From what I can make out - all of the people on the forum who have done this so far have been on pre-facelift cars and they worked immediately, I have a suspicion that facelift cars maybe slightly different.

Am I correct in thinking that I could fit an M steering wheel to replace my oem wheel and there should be all the plugs tucked away somewhere to enable the steering wheel button function. I have an 03 2.4 roadster with pro nav without steering buttons at the mo'.
Regards
Benny

I think it depends when in '03 your car was built. pre-september 03 has the plugs there, post doesn't... I think...
Mine was built in sept' 03 so no idea if mine has them or not :D

Built in july 03 so a good chance they could be lurking in ther waiting for a little M steering wheel action. beautiful

Actually, sorry... I got it wrong, this from the retrofit in the how to section:

If you do decide to fit the M sport wheel and your car was manufactured before September 2003, then you will also need to fit a retrofit cable which will enable the functions on the wheel to work.
If you need this retrofit cable it is about £5 and is bmw part no 61120394848
sorrrryyy :(

Yeah mine is a facelift. Doesn't sound promising, perhaps we do need to have something recoded?

I think that maybe the case - however I have no idea how to check. I would like to get to an Indy with a coding machine, but simply haven't had time.

I am going to be away at the end of this month with someone who's a BMW service engineer (a friend of a friend), so will ask him - let me know if you can un earth anything in the meantime.

Hmm mine was born in september 03 and i just bought a mfsw today... not feeling so confident of a smooth fitting right now
it should arrive in a week or two, hope the install works out :?

ok looks like i need the cable

"If you need this retrofit cable it is about £5 and is bmw part no 61120394848"

However the parts guy at my local BMW says the above part no. does not exist... does any one know if it has changed or been updated?
really kind of need it now :headbang:

Hotride - here are the link with details of how to fit with the rerofit cable;

http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=16422&p=239126&hilit=M+steering+wheel+cable#p239126

Worth contacting the original author who may be able to supply the correct part number etc.

Edit: Further search would suggest this is the correct part number and a special order from BMW Germany.

Search - what a wonderful facility...... :poke:

May be worth a post on here, see if anyone has left over from a kit where they've not needed it. They may be willing to post to you for a small fee... cover expenses. Failing that, I'll pick one up locally and wing it out in the post, you can PayPal me the cost... although I think they do take a little while to come through, even in the UK.

EDIT: Price locally - Cooper BMW Parts - don't think I'll bother Joe with this one.
