Yo may recall me banging on about my lowered suspension some numpty had done to my car.. i have found out the numpty that did it, is BMW.. its seems it was factory fitted as an option. So, ladies and gentlefolk, aside from shaking my bones, pommelling my coccyx and maybe attempting to get the original owner sectioned. no wonder the cd rom dont work . are there any benefits at all this side of a track day ?

Swap to SE springs, providing you're not bothered about the aesthetics of a bigger arch gap - you could swap tyres for higher sidewalls too but that gets expensive.

i agree with both thoughts, i have already got some 255/40/18s for the summer alloys and will do 225/45/18 at the front in the new year, and no i dont mind bigger arches.

The benefits are that it doesn't look like an off road vehicle  but yes, old knackered sport suspension gives a terrible ride, so no wonder you're not enjoying it

Yup, my old 3.0 M Sport susp didn’t like humps, but it did like fast roads.

Have you considered moving :poke:

I am sooooo replacing my awful crashy AP coilovers with standard Suplex springs and Bilstein B4 suspension in a month or so. Had enough all these years.

I've gone down this route on mine as well as fitting SE springs I fitted new B4 shocks. I run the bigger M spec tyre sizes too and that does add a bit more comfort. Overall the cars is miles more comfy, but no E85 is ever going to be great in this regard.
I initially fitted the B4s with eibachs and this was a big improvement over my existing knackered m sport shocks and springs. I wasn't launched out of my seat on every bump. Yes you could feel them but the new dampeners did their job. Ride was still a bit harsh for my liking and it bottomed out along a lot of the twisties in the Pennines near me.
I thought Id try the SE springs to see what difference they made and I'm glad I did. The ride is definitely loads better and the car is more usable on bad roads/twisties as it doesn't bottom out at all really.

My e85 Z4MR is by no means wobbly of comfort orientated, but it is not a bone crasher either. I personally think it is a great compromise.
Do you have runflat tyres? If you do there is the reason your M suspension feels hard as a rock. Get rid of runflats

noooo, my run flats are long gone :D
the real comfort is on the 2.0 i have to sell because i bought this 3.0 it sits on oversized 16" rims.. lovely :)

When you say bottom out mack, do you mean hitting the bump stops? If so does that mean the b4s don't have sufficient travel and damping to cope when paired with eibachs? I ask only because this combo is one I'm considering. Bottoming out isn't something others have mentioned, but I also enjoy pennine roads, so don't want the same issue....

RW, you can do the rears yourself https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=51205

so what do we recommend for shock absorbers ?
Lots go for bilstein b4 (me included) but there was a supply problem recently, not sure if it's sorted now. Getting new oem would get you the same results imo

Road Warrior, when I bought my Zed almost 4 years ago I ditched the SE springs and fitted some second hand Msport springs with the original Sachs shocks because I thought it would sit and look better. It did look better but after 2 years of getting my spine hammered I binned the Msport springs and went back to the original SEs with new Bilstein B4s all round. The original shocks were absolutely goosed !
Oh wow ! What a transformation ! Reasonable comfort with much better roadholding and handling. The car is so much more driveable out in the twisty stuff and has never caught a tyre on a wheel arch once since. SE springs + B4s + 18" standard size non-RFTs = Happiness
Car sits/looks like this now :D 20181201_004247.png

I agree chaps, se for me, i was soooooo happy when i found out i had sport suspension. and yes patriot it looks fine, and proven by the missus it seems :)

If the original shocks have 'lasted' 10 years or so then don't discount buying OEM Sachs to replace them - I did this on my coupe, buying from ECP with one of their better discounts so the cost was considerably cheaper than the cheapest B4s from Europe. Total cost last November was £238 for the set.

Does the old pre-mot shock test still work - basically pushing all your weight down on each corner to see how much movement there is?
