I have done this a few times, bought a car on impulse and not done too much homework, and regretted a couple of things afterwards...

This brings me to my 35i....I now have the M Sport wheels on it, and the car looks great. Not fussed about front and rear bumpers, but I would really like the steering wheel. Seen one on eBay, but it's close to £500. Question is, can it be changed easily enough...and is £500 bonkers money? I just don't like the thin shiny leather steering wheel......

My previous 645 went to a 650 M Sport, and I loved the new steering wheel....

Hi Nick,

Sounds ok value if it comes with the airbag as well it's a bargain I would say.

Shouldn't be too much of a pain to fit.

I like the feel of the m sport wheel but don't like it being all plain black. I prefer the silver look of the non m wheel personally.

Perhaps visit a dealer? The parts stores have been really helpful with stuff I've done on mine like the speakers.

Gary did the new speakers make a big diff? Was there cabling behind that panel above the storage compartment?

Well at first I hated them as they altered the sound in a way I didn't like. However after playing with the bass/treble/fader I found a balance I liked and it gives a better clarity of sound. Needs to be loud to sound right tho. The wires run from the tweeter to a connector on the mid driver in the door.

Think I'd like to replace the mid drivers next to give more vocal presence.

Yes, completely agree! Need something that combines the best bits of both... :D

Buy a good pair of leather driving gloves, it gets over the deficiency in the standard steering wheel. I really miss the M sport steering wheel i had on my 3 series but after a few drives with a pair of gloves on the standard wheel feels fine. Sorry perhaps not the kind of input you wanted but i had the same wish for my zed. At the time 18 months ago the m version wasn't out and most people seemed to think changing the wheel was a pain and expensive.

I always wear my BMW leather driving gloves in my Zed. I don't know why BMW UK doesn't sell leather gloves. I bought mine from the states.

Just wondering how difficult it would be to retro fit the 3 stainless parts to the m sport steering wheel and how much the parts cost from the local stealer ?

Do you need to take the steering wheel apart ?

According to my dealer, the MSport wheel is a straight swap, you can reuse the air bag module and you can even reuse the silver side bits from the stock wheel, as most would keep the bottom black plastic trim bit with the M logo from the M sport wheel. Cost here is about $800 installed ($700 for the wheel and $100 for the labor)
