M Sport seats going in this week

I have been keeping my eyes peeled lately for a set of M Sport seats in red for my Si coupe, so when a set appeared on eBay the other day I bit the sellers hand off, as they were electrically adjustable, so a straight swap for my existing red SE seats. I picked them up yesterday and they are in lovely condition.

Kirstie and I spent some time running preliminary tests last night, which involved sitting in the seats in the living room making car noises and early indications are good! :driving:

Rather than faffing around doing the swap myself in this cold weather I am dropping them off with BM Tec in Manchester this week for fitting. Will put up some before and after pics in case anyone is interested.

This means that I will have a spare set of SE seats. I was going to list them on eBay but thought I would put up an advert up on the forum first in case any members want them. Anyone have any idea what I should be asking for a set of mint red leather electric SE seats with matching door interior trims?

great news - you cant beat the sports seats for looks :thumbsup:

I would say around the £250 mark for your existing (heated?) red seats and door cards.

Or sub £200 if they are not heated
 
Well, M Sport seats are in!

And...

I am a bit disappointed after my first drive.

Don't get me wrong, they look better and are a bit more comfortable. They feel more solid and supportive on the thighs than the SE seats and generally make the car feel a little more special. However, the improvement isn't as great as I was expecting.

They still suffer from a serious lack of lumbar support. I am pretty slim and slide around quite a bit.

So: an improvement? Definitely.

Worth £650 plus fitting costs? Not in my opinion.

The guy I bought them from had replaced them with a set of Recaros and I had a ride in his car. His new seats felt firm, great quality and really held me in place. In short, they made the car feel a million dollars.

Perhaps other members would be better advised to look into the cost of some of these rather than spending their hard earned on a set of M Sport seats on the occasion they turn up on eBay.

Just my two peneth in the hope it will help anyone who comes across this thread in future when researching a seat swap.

Off to the PH Sunday Service and Performance Car Show on Sunday at the NEC so will see how I get on with a longer journey and update the thread again once I have had more wheel time with the new seats.

Oh well, onwards and upwards! Next job: Bilsteins! :driving:
 
You got them for a decent price though James so I'd be chuffed with that! I'd have then every time over the SE for looks alone, I think M seats look stunning and totally transform the car.

With regard to comfort, and lumbar support I do agree they aren't brilliant. However if you tinker with the adjustment, tilt the base upwards a little and don't slouch - thus have the rear more upright than perhaps you might usually and they actually aren't bad at all. I always pull the leg support out for longer journeys which again seems to take some strain off the lumbars.

I'm looking at the possibility in fitting Honda S2000 seats into mine at the moment. The Z4 sports seats look amazing but the cost is really putting me off, the rarity of the seat has pushed the price to somthing silly.
 
I had a s2000 before the zed and the seats were great in that car.

I'm sorry to hear James that your not happy with the seats but you could easily get your money back for these .

I have reupholstered my passenger seat, and soon will do the drivers seat
 
I do find that my additional winter insulation holds me more firmly in my seats than might otherwise be the case :lol:
 
M sport seats will definitely make your coupe more desirable since most coupes are SI Sports and come with m sport seats as standard so you'll definitely pick up the cost in the resale value.


I would have fitted them myself though... disconnect battery then super easy job, 4 nuts to remove on the base and then 1 on the seat belt and a simple plastic release underneath each seat.

they take some maneuvering to get out and in the car though :rofl:


P.S I found the m sport seats far more comfortable on long journeys... the standard seats really hurt my lower back after an hour of driving and I had to constantly adjust.... never had to adjust with the m sport seats, but you are right... lack of lumbar support on both

Had some lower back pain when I first drove the car but the above approach fixed it. Can do 6hrs+ straight with no issues now.
 
Thanks for your replies all and for the pointers re seat positioning.

I have to say, now I have had chance to tinker with the seat back and do some longer journies, I am really happy with them.

Yes, they may still lack the lumbar support I was hoping for, but on the whole as others have said, they are much more comfortable and make the interior a more special place to be.

I retract my former statement!

I now feel like I have got my monies worth for what I paid... :)
 
You also have to remember what a tiny car the Z4 is - the seats (sport or not) are really small compared to the huge, comfortable seats in any other BMW (try a pair of 7 series contour sport seats!) so you really can't expect to have the looks of a sports car and the ride of an executive saloon. I think they are pretty good considering their size.
 
Jonny, I'd try to buy some really tatty m sport seats and have them full re-trimmed. That way you'll have new seats, but good ones ;)
