navid - good idea! just found out the other day that he's local as well :) I'll have a word ;)

if he's up for it, I'll hang around while he tries his final attempt at getting the buttons to work!

Ideally I'd like the buttons to work as my previous car was a focus, which had the audio controls on a stalk right where the cruise control on the Z4 is... after feeling like an idiot for forgetting, I curse having to reach across to the radio to change the volume etc...

who knows,it might even work on your car :P poor inkey, feel sorry for him and his attempts to solve this probelm :|

What's the replacement then?

Going for alcantara with M stitching also going to replace the gaiter for the gear lever with M stitching too. Should look nice (not too overstated I'm hoping?)

what does the alacantra one look like? never seen one before... Where are you getting these from? Gaiter should look cool 8)

There's a blokey who does recovering. He can be found on ebay etc. I will post the link if anyone wants it? I know someone who had his done and it looks awesome.

What does he recover if you have just sold the steering wheel though?

The spare one I had. Managed to get a total steal from a breaker. I don't think he appreciated what he was selling to be honest. :D

I must admit it's starting to feel like BMW have decided to play a practical south German joke on me and sent me das duffer. Joe at Sopers is on the case re: the return of my wheel and replacement for a new one (ie sending me a new one without me having to sent the old one back until I have a result). If THAT doesn't work then I'm not sure what I'll do....probably trade it in and buy a coupe with fitted MFSW; what better excuse!

...so sorry Dev. Much as I'd love to help out a fellow SE3'er the wheel is probably going back to Lincoln at some point.

Mr Gringo - I'll keep you posted mate.

Wish me luck guys :!:

Inkey,

if Dev is local, you can let him try it on his car to see if there is a problem with the steering or they don't want you to have one with MFSW

Not a bad idea Navid. Thanks dude; I know you feel my pain right?! Will see what Joe says and if he needs the wheel back asap I'll send up, otherwise have a chat with Dev and see if he's up for testing. TBH I'd rather have a brand new wheel to make sure 100% that its something else. If I get a new wheel and it still doesn't work then I may have to visit a diagnostic specialist (as opposed to the stealer).

This is really perplexing. Picking up the car tomorrow from the garage after all the work I've just had done so will have a chat with them and see what they suspect too.

I'm not giving up!!

Inkey,

I do for sure feel your pain as I did my mfsw at the same sort of time you bought yours. Whatever you do,I hope that you get it fixed,at least to ease your pain and long period of frustration.

The amazing Joe at Sopers story continues. He's going to send me a replacement wheel for me to try. Absolute legend. Now I want make sure its fitted properly just to put my mind at rest (i.e. I don't want to think its somehting I've done/not done). Main dealer or indy? Should be a half hour job right?

I see what you're saying but I'd question the need to pay to have it done. It is a very simple job to carry out yourself just that it seems you have been blighted by a faulty wheel. I very much doubt you actually did anything wrong. Why not put it on yourself first and then if that doesn't work, see about in indie or dealer doing it? Could save a few quid.

Good point well made playalistic. I shall tackle it first and if its still a non starter take it to my local specialist.

We must be getting close to Halloween and the z4 witch
