M sport Bumper...am I missing something

Maybe I'm having a senior moment but I noticed something about the front bumper on my Msport 23i.

As i was walking away from it I glanced back ( as you do..... :D ) and noticed the horizontal holes in both left and right lower grills.

Is my bumper supposed to have a silver piece fitted here.?

I have included a couple of photos. First pic is of a bumper with it fitted and second pic is a bumper thats fitted to my car.

Real oem shows the horizontal part but its greyed out and there is no part number.

I always knew nothing good would come from giving bears equal rights............... Voting, drinking and now driving?

If you have a car with silver kidney grills DO you have the silver horizontal parts fitted as standard and if your car has black grills ( mine ) then you dont?

Was it an option to have them fitted on the earlier Msport cars?

Or am I completely missing something ( literally ).

As far as I can see there are 3 options.

One without, like my bumper, one with just a silver bar and another with the silver surround and bar.
 
Standard on 35i in non-M spec and comes with the surround, and then standard on 35is for M Sport spec but without the surround.

So you’re not missing anything.

Actually think it looks better (a bit more 'aggressive') without it.
 
The silver slats/bars or whatever they are called ONLY came in the 35is is attached behind the black mesh so you cannot just pull it to remove/attach.

Edit: just saw that wondermike already answered :)
