M sound generator tubing

Noticed a plastic tube entering the engine from the passenger firewall, at the back of the engine with a blank rubber cover over it. Am I right in thinking this is the sound generator tubing from the 3.0?

Just wondering if there is anything else I would need to do behind the glove box to get this up and running.

I am thinking it may be possible to hook up with an extension to a Gruppe M or similar :)

Anyone know what it is, the cover has a flap that move so could be hvac related?

Cable tubing? Surely cant be anything sound related... Would utterly destroy my view that this car just doesn't need it!

Phew.. 1) Surely this is not required in the M, its exhaust must make up for it. 2) Why would you want 'fake' sound in the cabin? Its just induction noise and yes it makes the 3.0 sound better (to you and no one else) but best to let the M sing like the composers wanted it to?

Z4M doesn't have it but it seems that M3/M5/M6 all have sound generators. I noticed it in mate's M3, when the roof is up the engine noise comes from the dash area so there's something there to transmit noise.

Cheers Beedub, sounds plausible. The tube is empty on mine by the way.

Why an earth would I clean down the back of my engine bay?

Maniac, have a listen to the induction roar the z4m puts out with a Gruppe M or carbon airbox, it's an awesome sound and the greater the better as far as I'm concerned.

Anyway case closed.

why would you clean yr engine bay ? looks better, probably goes better, (honest :? ) is theraputic, and satisfying, enhances value. gets better attention from garage mechanics ,(they know you care ) need i go on ?
