M Servicing - Advice please!

Hi guys,

Firstly, owned the M for just over 6 months now & still loving every minute!

My Service history below:

running in 16/05/06
Oil service 04/03/09 - 6000 miles
Oil service 23/07/10 - 17700 miles
Inspection 1 03/08/2012 - 25000 miles
Oil service 26/07/2013 27500 miles

I'm currently on 34900 & wondering what to do next?...looking at the inspection 1 it had shims done & diff oil (meticulous previous owner!)

Any advice would be appreciated all

Insp 2 not due until about early 40-s, 42 - 43 or so.

Do an oil / Brake fluid next, don't reset the service indicator and let it run until the Insp is due.
 
Service indicator is saying g 2500 till due, shall I reset that & do an oil service now & then do an inspection 2 this time next year?

Brake fluid done 06/14 so not due till next year so can do ins2 & brake fluid at same time then

If it was reset (properly) at the last oil service, then it'll be counting down to an Inspection 2. So the only service required right now (i.e. 7,000 miles and 2 years) will be an oil service. Then it will require the big inspection in 25000 miles - which only makes about 10,000 miles between services seems very short - but could just be down to driving pattern.

However, don't reset the service indicator if it's showing 'inspection' and you just do an interim oil service - as then you'll not have the reminder to do the major inspection.

As pvr says, don't reset the service indicator on these interim services otherwise you'll throw out the Inspection timings.

The other option is to simply do an Inspection II 2500 miles early - but that'll cost you anywhere between £500 and £1200 depending on where you take it.

If you stick yo just the oil service, then there's nothing wrong with doing a bit of extra maintenance if you feel like, such as air filter, air con microfilter, air con refresh/service, brake fluid change and, if it's never had one, maybe a coolant flush/change.

Above is true, but only if you do the mikes, otherwise substitute the inspections for an oil service until you hit the mileage (why you don't reset the service indicator)
 
It's saying 2500 till inspection, do you guys think I should just do oil & the filters? What happens when this 2500 reaches 0 & I don't reset it? I don't think it was reset property at the last inspection..
 
How many miles a year do you do. Unless 2.5k will last you anywhere near 12 months I would go straight to inspection 2.
 
I do about 8-9k a year, the previous owner had said he'd done most inspection 2 items at inspection 1, apart from the Sparks, so I'm a little apprehensive about doing the inspection 2 at 35k:/
 
Why? You can't over-service the car and could do an I2 at every service if you wanted to

When you come to sell, people will want to see that you've at least met the service schedule, nobody will complain if you've serviced more often than necessary or have had inspections done early

35k or 37.5k make little difference and saves you around £200 by not doing the oil again (assuming main dealer pricing)
 
Inspection II - Your last oil service was completed early and you have run 7,500 miles since. Whilst the indicator starts at 15500 miles (I think) the reality is that the services come up between 9,000-12,000 miles depending on usage I.e track, around town, cruising, etc hence Inspection II usually comes up around 40-45k miles.

Your oil service was done after 2,500 so it makes sense your Inspection II will end up approx 7/8k miles earlier.
