M Seats

As a few people have expressed interest in progress here's an update on alcantara seats.

I called in to see the trimmers on my way to see a client this morning. My seats were on the bench being worked upon... didn't take any photos as they were stripped down to the foam. Was in the zed, so was able to check the colour match between the steering wheel and the alcantara. A pretty close match, so happy about that. The black leather looks OEM too!

Had a long chat with the guy and decided that I am going to stick with the red diamond & double stitching as with the example photo. The silver just didn't give enough contrast. They are hoping to have all the bits done early next week. I can't wait... :happyclap:

Glad they are coming along,I think the red diamond stitching will look fantastic, really looking forward to seeing the end results:D

OK. Still no photos to show, so apologies before I even start this update...

The zed has been with the upholsters for a few days, so I called in to see how things have been going. I have finally seen progress with my own eyes! The door panels are already finished - they're not fitted to the car yet but they look great. The centre section of each panel has been retrimmed in alcantara with red stitching, and I decided to have all of the other vinyl parts retrimmed in black nappa leather for the 'extended' look.

The seat bases and backs have also been trimmed - with the centre section in alcantara with red diamond stitching - but the seats haven't been reassembled yet. The trimmers have got some show work to do next week, so I'm hoping to pick the car up in a week or so. I will endeavour to get some photos taken when I pick it up.... before the zed goes in to the body-shop for its PDC rear bumper to be fitted... at least I'll get to drive it back from the upholsterers :)

I'm so happy with the job they've done that I've decided that the zed is going to go back to them in a couple of months to have the dash-top trimmed in alcantara. I think that would be a nice contrast to the dash inserts, which have been painted in semi-gloss Sterling Grey - as has the centre console top. They have covered the centre console in black nappa leather too, so I'm going to get them to do the rear section of the centre console in black nappa next time too...

My old seats are back home, so they are officially for sale now!

For all those who doubted that you'd ever see this job finished (especially the clown who contacted me through eBay and sent abuse - whoever you are)

After initially being really pleased with the work, the whole thing descended into a nightmare. The retrimmers triggered any number of airbag faults, then the seat motor failed, then the heating element in the other, which meant I had to cannibalise the old seats the get it all back up and running.... anyway all done, and the zed has now emerged from its winter hibernation ready to get its PDC fitted (should have been done last year, but the car stayed with the retrimmers for 3 months) and the new bushes and anti-roll bars (same story).

On a sad note (for me) - and possibly a better note for someone else, these photos will shortly be making their way across to the 'FOR SALE' section, as both the zed and the 5er are up for sale in a few weeks. Another long story...

Hope you enjoy the pics...! :)

Yeah. I wasn't sure whether to keep the headrests leather or not. In the end, I decided to go with the look of the Mille Miglia E89 upholstery - so the headrest was in alcantara too...

After all that hard work..... If you fancy selling your aero skirts I'd happily buy them :D

Nice photos by the way

Seats and door cards look brilliant, seems such a shame to sell after having a quality job done and all the hassle you have had.
Some one is going to buy a nice individual Z4.

Thanks! As things stand I'll be selling the zed as it is - mainly because I had to sell all of the original bits, as I didn't have the room to keep them...

We're having some building work done and really need to use the garage for storage, so the current plan is to sell both cars and replace with just one - for the moment, anyway!
