'M' Seats - can you make the side supports wider?

Cant swap them as the inside edge is suade not leather.

The question related to the back not the bases. Mine are leather on both sides, suede on the inner faces of the bases. As I noted above the real challenge will be the seat belt guide and how easily that can be switched by removing the back covers.

I'm actually not that overweight (5' 11" and 14.5st) was just joking...

Seriously though the passenger seat fits me better, can the side supports be bent out a bit?

Your BMI is 28.3, which is 3.3 higher than upper limit of normal. You should lose about 23 pounds.

My BMI is 24.9 (5'8" and 11.3st) , M Sports Seat fits me perfectly. I go to gym twice a week, and burn 950 calories each time (60 minutes on treadmill at 9.6kph, and 10 minutes on cross-trainer). :)

I was over-weighed 3 years ago. My waist was 38", but is now 32". I lost 1.8 stones after going to gym and stopped eating junk.

5'6" and 9 stone here, i must slide around in the seats

If anyone needs any food/diet tips then i'm an expert 8)

Same dimensions as Mrs CJ and they are the first car seats she's really loved. Shame as it causes her to steal the car.

BMI is a bit misleading though.
Some of the guys at the gym i use are fairly short and very muscular...little fat, but there BMI would be high due to there weight of muscle.

I'm lazy & comfortable with my morbidly obese BMI score. I just got a car with more power to offset the extra weight :P

I really love them too and find them very comfy. Even on long journeys, they give great support compared to some of the things i've been in.

Oh and if anyone else wants to work their Body Mass Index (BMI) out since it's been brought up, you can do so here - http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ - Mine's 20.3 :)

Thanks for the tip Doc...I've always thought BMI a bit misleading - it's great as a 'guideline' but not an accurate science as it only takes in to account height and weight and does not take into account muscle/bone density or skeletal structure/build.

I'm not saying I couldn't lose a few pound but I think loosing 23 pounds is a bit extreme...plus none of my clothes would fit anymore...

I'm sure the latest trend is to comparing waist to hip size rather than BMI as it seems to give a better correlation to health. 0.9 for men and 0.7 for women.
Anyway whatever I try it tells me I need to lose a bit...lol

I think this is one of the best hijacks of a thread I've seen.... OP asked if a seat can be adjusted and he and everyone has been put on a fitness/diet regime

I have a problem with the base being too tight on my thighs. I'm 6'1+ 210 lbs. My lats just fit but my thighs don't fit the base. I'm a mountain biker, so my thighs are on the larger size. Please don't say I should loose weight, because the area that's too tight has no fat, but solid muscle.

Does anyone know if it would be possible to modify the base to add maybe 10-13mm in width to each side. Is the base metal or plastic. Could it be bent or cut and welded to at some width, flattening out the bolsters some?

Having taken to pieces both standard and ///M seats to make my own memory electric and heated ///M set I can tell you that the bases are very different. The standard is a much wider base and fits around the outside of the backrest frame and has a much wider seat pan. The ///M fits inside the back frame and is a complex structure of flat metal pressings and tubes welded and bolted with various hard plastic mouldings and layers of foam, designed to be narrow and tight. IMHO what this means is that widening the M would be difficult.

This leads me to say that while of course it's possible to widen the base, bend it, cut, weld, etc. that will be new territory to explore, but it would be possible to switch in the wider bases of standard seats without any difficukly at all. If they are black they shoudl be easy to obtain, or even as spares from BMW and reversible on selling

Here's a picture of a manual M to show what you'd be up against
