srhutch, why are you looking at M''s again ... you know you will buy mine one day so you just have to be patient :poke:

Just spotted it whilst looking for something else

Arent the Inspections only done when the SI tells you to? Otherwise if it hits the 2yr limit you just change the oil+filter.
I mean that he's claiming to do the services 12 months without fail to show how much it's cared for - but then shows the history with intervals of over 12 months - and having a brake fluid change 6 months overdue (and that is shown on the service indicator).

It 'could' be that there's a stamp missing for a brake fluid change, but if so why would you get another one done 6 months later when it wasn't due?

Aye know what your saying. It does say he bought it with 14k on the clock so must of done the Inspection 1 not long after it was bought.
The running in service as was mentioned is triple the mileage it should be and 12 months after the car was registered! (56 plate but only done in Nov 07).

When i bought mine they said they couldn't sell a car AUC if wasn't within the schedule. They won't honour the warranty.

Some dealers don't play by the rules, hence why AUC should be treated with caution.

Mine was done at 1600miles - would that be a concern? It didn't bother me as it still had it done, not missed altogether. Also the rest of the services were all carried out as expected by dealers. Car appeared very well looked after and only had one previous owner. But could I have problems come to resale time?

Does make you wonder though. If you had bought your M new, paid £40K+, taking delivery of your new pride and joy..... I don't know but if it was me I would do exactly what they recommend. In fact I would have probably timed it so I turned up at the dealer just as the odo hit 1200!

Ye I would have walked away from it at 1600 too. There are warning stickers in the book, engine compartment, dash and the dealer tells you and anyone who no's anything about M cars and spends that kind of money on them to begin with are completely ignorant not to have it done at the correct interval. Dealers are most insistent, I remember when dad got his E92 M3 and the dealer made a huge deal over the first service and all the running in information, we tread pretty carefully until 1200.

You have to wonder because if your waiting for an M car you want to drive it fast and keep driving it so if they missed the service how was it driven... BIG BIG NO NO for me I'm afraid.

It is probably the most important thing to look for when buying an M car and like said dealers don't like to honour cars that have been serviced incorrectly as it can cause damage that may cost a lot to put right.

not really..as you say you'd probably time it so it rolled onto the forecourt at 1200 miles, but there're a lot of fastidious owners on here.

an M car bought in scotland or wales will have been driven up hills for the first 1200 miles, would you avoid all cars registered in these areas? 1200 miles in scotland is not the same as 1200 miles in the fens.

the internet creates mountains out of molehills ('scuse the pun!) and there's lots of things to consider when buying a car, all of these shouldn't be ignored at the expense of one M idiosyncrasy.

if it was your daily driver and you'd booked it in on thursday for the 1200 mile running in service and you had a meeting 200 miles away on the wednesday, what would you do? bear in mind the people who can afford these cars new may well be car enthusasts, but in the main, their priority is going to be whatever activity it is that provided the means to buy the car in the first place.

BMW say 700 miles - 1700 miles, it's a running in service, the 1200 mile bit is arbitrary within reason...

Mine was done at 1080 as I was going to go to Scotland and I could not drive anymore :)

That took 3 days ...

You must assume 1200 is a guide as BMW themselves allow + 400 or so. If it was such a crucial issue BMW would insist on it before 1200 miles (say 1000 to 1200)

Also, is there any evidence of cars missing their service deadlines having more issues than those having them done on the date due? Engines that have gone kaput on this forum seem to be usually correctly or over serviced IIRC and usually coupes :poke:

Having said all that you'd avoid a car with a dodgy/late service history if there were others with a similar price. Wouldn't put me off if it was a lovely car and £2k less than similar cars :)

that seems a sensible point of view to me..in the main!!

Mine was done at 717 miles is this a problem? :?

Hmm running in oil removed too soon :o Another question. :)

Makes you wonder if they will replace it as early as 717 and as late as 1600 how arsed exactly are BMW??

It's probably already knackered - may as well just strip it out and make it into a track slag :poke:

Must have been a press car and driven so hard that the oil was full of metal bits, therefore them deciding to drain it. :poke:

My feeling is Bmw direct have looked after its since birth so I take my chances, impeccable service history and at 55k she runs sweet so do not see it as an issue I would be more worried if it was later from the research I have carried out as running higher revs for a longer period of time on the run in fluids or if at all! :o
