I used Meguiars 85 Diamond cut compound with a red cutting pad (or light cutting wool pad for really deep ones), then onto the 80 Speed Glaze with a Meguiars black finishing pad or red Dodo finishing pad. There are more agressive compounds but this way I can take my time without worrying,
The DA was an excellent present from my G/F and it has had loads of use so far. It is so easy to put a mark on a dark car that wouldnt show on silver. they are not even scratches as such.

Just tried some Dodo Purple Haze as a sealant and that works well on the dark paint, but don't know how it protects or lasts yet.

The Dremel pads were out of a kit from Aldi, (I think they are in store this week) they look like extra strong mints but made from a white fibre.

I use Purple Haze and it works OK. However I used Carlack 68 nano just before winter and its been superb. Water still beads and all I have done is wash the car throughout winter. I'm going to give it a clay, polish, seal and wax though next month. I keep pondering getting DA but am really worried about knackering the car up. Are they reasonably safe to use ?

DA's are a piece of piss to use, you can't 'really' damage the paint...There are only two ways you could. Using too aggressive polish (Compound etc) and if you let go of the machine or touch the backing plate on the paint.

Start slow, use a sensible polish and you're sorted.

How hard do you press, I have same machine with various pads and compounds. Just unsure how long to do it for before waxing and polishing to see results. I seem to get a slight shimmering effect???
