M Retrofit Cruise Control (again)

I've recently acquired a Z4m roadster with everything on it I wanted except cruise.

Having searched through here I know it can be retro fitted but is more complicated on the M ( an '07 BTW)

Does anyone know anyone, apart from the two below, who is able to install it succesfully

Prestige German Cars http://www.prestige-german-cars.co.uk/
Forzawest Chepstow. http://www.forzawest.com/contact_us.php

Local specialist states that it can't be done and the local dealer wanted £120+vat :o to look to see if he could do it, thinks it will be " a bit like on the M3" not wanting to throw away £144 thought I'd ask here.

Thanks

There's a post on here (or I can email you) on the BMW instructions to do it.....if you're spanner handy you could DIY it.....

Recent price from Soper BMW:
Complete Cruise control retro fit kit (with instructions) - £195 delivered for kit (includes new steering column trim, stalk and wiring) - Alternatively the wiring and stalk seperate would be £80 Inc.

im sure the ///M requires wires to be cut and spliced into where as the non-m cars are just plug and play....... i may be incorrect but im sure its not just a plug and play thing otherwise we'd all have done it!!!! lol

Even the non-M cars (after 2004) required wires to be cut and spliced - I fitted it on my last coupe. But the M is definitely a whole different kettle of fish and I'm not sure what actually needs to be done differently.

Penguin - Thanks for the offer, I have the details for the non ///M version. If you do have something else then yes please!!

Otherwise, does anyone know anywhere else I could go?

I'm hoping to book it to be done this month!

Yes, it is a far harder job than it is for non-M's be they pre or post face lift.

Someone on here at some point has had it done though but i cant remember who.

Someone with a better memory than me might be along soon to point you in the right direction. or just a damn good search on here.

Any recommendations or otherwise for either of:-

or any one else?

Yeah - I went to Prestige tho.. was a nice day trip, got the tram to the beach & chilled in the sunshine at North Shields.

At least one wire needed connecting to some block manually - dont think it needed coding. 3 or so hours later it was ready to go, & I did the whole journey back down sitting on my leg. :driving:

Can't remember the cost but looks like you've read whichever thread already.

It cant be done on a Z4M... I had two dealers desperate to do it to sell their cars to me. Even had a conditional deposit on one. After a long chat between their technicians, BMW UK and Munich the conclusion was reached - It cant be done [by BMW] on a Z4M. I still don't believe it but eventually gave up and found a factory fitted one and bought that.

I've been meaning to get this done for a while now and i'm going to drive down to South Shields in the near future. I got a quote from Prestige of £280 inc VAT.

I contacted Birds Auto in Middlesex and they said they could definitely do it, but didn't quote me a price a the time. Haven't got round to getting back in touch with them yet to confirm the price.

I've booked today for a trip to South Shields next week.

Quoted £250-£300 inc vat. Soon as I mentioned the job they were very positive about their ability to do it.

BMW main dealers state they can't do it even though some are happy to take our cash to investigate to see if they can!

There is no manufacturers retro fit kit so many independents will state it can't be done.

Others have had it done at the two places I mentioned in the first post of this thread. Maybe other places too??

I'm booked in with Prestige next week and will report back, I had cruise in my 350Z and miss it.

I suspect it's easy if you know how, but I don't expect they'll want to say how it's done or everyone will be doing it!!

Actually when the first post about this came up the guy at Prestige said he'd be happy to let others know I think - but I just fancied getting it sorted & thought the guy deserved it for working it out.

*Probably* the best mod I did.

Thanks for the confirmation  both garages a long trip for me but worth it should be collecting my M this sat :D

Would love to know this as well guys! You can be subtle with your questions (because its your car and your interested!?!) and not tell him exactly why you are asking... :D . As mentioned it surely cant be all that difficult and looks as though no programming is neccesary

Cheers!
