Ok peeps so needed a new drivers side headlight , anyway not till I purchased it did I notice it has a silver inner as opposed to black inner that are one the car now , as it seems one with black miners are like rockocking horse s**t am going to fit the silver in nerd one , question is will it pass MOT test with one of each fitted , cheers

Don't see why not... it's essentially just trim colour, I doubt it affects the light emitted!

What failed on the old unit to require a complete headlight assembly?

There was some condensation inside so after reading about using a hair dryer to dry it out , I asked and showed my son how to do it and he volunteered to do it while I was at work , big mistake he thought it would be quicker with a heat gun and melted the headlight ( big white mark right where main beam shines ) ....my fails should have known better , he is at uni after all !

Are the black inners rare? Was it a factory order, specific colours, or just random that you got black or silver?

When they tell you how much kids cost to grow to adulthood, they dont factor in these sort of things!

If the mark is on the surface it will cut and buff out. I use wet + dry working done to 2000 grit then polish with T cut or alike always working by hand.
Tape over the paintwork first with masking tape - just in case you let your lad have a go!

I'd say this if it's only superficial and hasn't warped the actual plastic.

If they're really hard to get hold off then how about splitting the headlight? Use the "new" unmarked lens on your original lamp... obviously try get hold of someone who has done it before! You'll either need to bake it or use a small dremel type tool.

Black inners were on all cars below 3.0i/3.0si engine size.

Ah, thank you. Been trying to work that out for ages!

It was discussed recently on another thread. You obviously have a life and don't spend all day on here!

You could always split the headlamp and paint your headlamp inner to match the black one. Or paint both silver, or any other colour. They're just cosmetic trim parts.

I painted mine in ford graphite grey (i think) and they came out nice.

Didn't know you could split them , are they easy to split ?

Not particularly. You need to cut them open using a dremel. Seems daunting at first, but it's actually not too difficult.

Same with the grill. Black inserts with black headlights, chrome slays with silver headlights. Only exception with the grill though Is the ///M

Thank you, yes my life must have got in the way of important things like headlight threads on Internet forums. Must prioritise in future!
