M market watch

Hi, new member here who's after a z4m coupe ,
Originally was after a 3.0si but upon viewing a few local to me I could not find any decent ones ( I'm down south) majority seem up north, also the rising prices of the low mileage "looked after ones" have made me think its worth purchasing a z4mc also hydraulic steering appeals to me , I understand owning costs are far higher than a 3.0si but I think the s54 engine outweighs the cons !
I own a 550 marranello so not to fussed about maintenance costs as im used to high service costs , I'm just after something I can enjoy for spirited road driving and always wanted a coupe since I was young

I've been lurking in the deaths of the forum looking up all the usual Issues with the cars etc .

Just wondered if any of you experts could cast your eyes over this I have found localish to me ,
It's not exact spec I'm after but thought I would have a look and drive it to see if it is exactly what I want , also rod bearings have been done which is appealing.

any advice would be greatly appreciated or even if any of you are looking at selling your z4mc's

Many thanks
Looks very tidy to me and a good spec. MOT History is good, 7 previous owners.
The only thing that can really let it down is service history so give that a good explore.

Indeed, that looks outstanding and not bad value too. Carbon Black is in fact a very dark blue, a bit more interesting than black sapphire, but harder to source panels for.

That looks like a smart example in a great Individual colour combination, and it's actually less than 10 miles from me!

Thanks, it says it has full service history but will check its had the proper running in check etc,
Where did you see it said it had 7 previous owners ? I have been over the advert and can't see that ? Also they have there own plates on so can't check that or mot history . Thanks

I wouldn't be too worried about 7 previous owners, cars like this seem to change hands quite often. 2 seaters often become impractical if circumstances change or after ticking that box people want to move on to the next box to tick. Mine had 7 previous keepers when I bought it in December 2019!

As Street already said it does have a good spec. You could always ask them to send you a copy of the history and the Reg No. so you can check MOT history.

If it would help I could arrange to take a look at it next week seeing as I'm retired. :D

I was waiting for a viewing on my coupe [cough :)] and took the challenge a little too seriously. Even though the seller went to good lengths to hide the reg and VIN they didn't manage to hide everything. Fun fact there are only 8 carbon black M coupe's with Champainge interior in the UK. I'll send you the VIN and reg for this one so you can have a look at its history.

Not in the UK, but a Z4MC and Z4MR were sold as part of an impressive M collection last week for 80k and 52k Euros.

Somehow I doubt it.

Used car prices in the UK are so much lower than the rest of Europe or the US, which is great news when buying but not so great when selling!

Pistonheads mentioned this one in an article of theirs that will be live on of their auctions on 12 November.

OK it's said to be a 2 owner car, but there is no mention of rod bearing shells and the seller could have made an effort with the driver's seat bolster!

Still it will be interesting to see what it makes, not least because mine has done a similar mileage. Somehow I can't see it getting to £14K though.

how does the seller know? or just guessing at the mileage for rods?
  • The vendor informs us that the rod bearings are due to be replaced
Seems like it needs some work. Might have a cheeky bid, reminds me of my old 130I LE with the lemon interior which I hated lol but love interlagos blue (even had my old Z M Coupe painted in it!)

Well the one on the Pistonheads auction has only reached £10,100 with just an hour to go!

Would have bidded more, but seems like it needs a few K putting in to it plus the history seems all over the place....for that reason im oooot!

The seller should have put a bit more effort into preparing it properly. That driver's seat bolster looked terrible, and other than the early history the rest seemed a bit vague! I wonder where it will appear next?

Anyway assuming you are looking good luck finding the right one.

I’m very curious how the UK market works and why there is so much price difference? Does the RHD mean that as export to most countries is not really attractive there is just less demand? Also I have the feeling that in the UK there more stigma attached to driving an older car by the majority of the population (but am happy to be proven wrong on this hypothesis!).

As a Netherlands based car enthousiast it does hurt if you see that for example you can pick up a nice Z4M for what we would pay for a bog standard 3.0!

Prices in UK for convertibles / sports cars are depressed and UK buyers are very wary of high mileages…probably due to the fact hat most Fords, Vauxhalls fell apart at 50k miles…long memories..
