M market watch

I sold my Z4M a little while ago, but I'm already having temptations to re-enter the fold, as I need a car for a couple of road trips this year.

Does anyone know anything about this car. My only concern is the 4 year gap in the history: https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/z4m-roadster/bmw-z4m-roadster-imola-red-big-spec/6874560#/home

The MOT history from 2010 is rather confusing. It passed with no advisories in April 2010 and then failed in April 2011 (after just 500 miles) with 2 rear tyres below 1.6mm and lipped discs.

Should I be worried, and would this impact the value of the car in the future?

The car is local to me and is very well looked after from what I know. At the advertised price it seems like great value.

When it comes to the MOT history it seems to come down to the tester. My car has received advisories in the past for items that were renewed just 50 miles prior and last year it failed on a cracked spring when in fact the springs were in immaculate condition once removed!

That car is a forum car.
It is in the for sale section.
If I was in the market i would be all over it.
The missing service and sketchy MOT history wouldn't put you off?
I've seen another thread recently where someone said an immaculate service history is everything, so I'm unsure whether to go for it or not?
The car is exactly what I'm looking for other than that.

Looks a cracking car at a great price.
The gap would not bother me too much as it only covered 10k, not ideal I agree, but also not the end of the world. It might not of been used for two of the years.

Don't forget your only getting people's opinions on this forum, and it's only that, their opinions.

Go see the car, if it's what you want find a local bmw specialist to the sale and have the car inspected, if the car has been clocked or has issues they will be able to find out very quickly.

That can't hang around long surely, looks a great buy at that price in the current market!

Missing service history from >5 years/XX000 miles ago wouldn't bother me at all. Its strength been proven since then I'd have thought.

I agree.
Plus, it's well priced and if you can get a little more off give it a decent service when you get it 👍

Just come across this - the car in question is mine.

The gap in history is before I owned it. I think it's pretty obvious that the previous owner went by the service indicator. As has already been said, it only done 10k in those 4 years. Not ideal agreed but that was 5 years ago and it's been meticulously looked after and serviced ever since.

I also don't think it's fair to call the MOT history sketchy. I'd put my money on it being sold then and a garage just put an MOT on it before selling. That or a friendly MOT tester.

I'd challenge anyone to find a better Z4M for the money. I believe mine is the cheapest on the market considering the condition, mileage and spec and it comes with a plethora of service history and receipts.

I am genuinely surprised with the lack of interest so far. Hopefully interest levels will pick up as the better weather comes in.

Yes, nice car but paint needs some work as it's very swirled and scratched, and front end needs a full respray as it's really badly stone chipped, I've made the guy an offer and if all goes well I'm putting a deposit down on Friday.

Cool, hope you manage to get it.
Most I looked at when buying mine needed paint or had just had a refresh.

I'll let me mate know to keep looking 😉

83k Inty blue MR at £12995 open to offers http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Z4M-Roadster-/182542179201?hash=item2a805c9b81:g:ZEcAAOSwJ4hY~RVD
Not struck on the carbon + carbon tweak to the interior but otherwise the car could be worth a look for those with a tight budget ?

Same colour but lower miles...

Seems a nice car and open to offers....

Looks familiar, sure this was the car that sparked the OEM pipes war last year. I swear they're not ;-)

Ha ha that was my MR. Rogue/Aftermarket tips or whatever they look great in the flesh. I cherished that car for 3 years and then sold it to a guy in Bath last July with about a thousand miles less on the clock and about one third less than the current asking price. After a brief affair with a Mini GP1 I missed the Zed experience so much that I bought a 2015 AUC 35is a couple of weeks ago in Mineral White with Coral. If anyone has had a bang on the head and is considering paying Halliwell Jones a small ransom for my old MR then give me a shout if you want any info.

When I bought my car in October lat year, I updated my Autotrader account accordingly. IIRC, at that point Autotrader valued it as a private sale for £17k odd. It's now £20,240.

I'm not sure what they base their valuations on, I think it's asking prices for comparable cars on the site (of course asking and getting are two different things) but I do think it points towards a definite increase in values.

I've been keeping an eye on this too. My last three cars, a JCW and Cooper S mini and a E46 M3 sold for pretty much the valuation that the Autotrader gave for them.

Looks like the engine has been sitting at the bottom of the sea.

I'm sure that ali would clean up though with a bit of TLC. Overall looks a nice car. steering wheel also needs some attention. One of the worst I've seen.

It has done 77k ....

Nowt a few hours wouldnt sort out and the wear on the wheel is easily sorted.

Bargain basement Z4M ownership will never be mint..

Autotrader is valuing my car at nearly £3k more than it was 6 months ago. That's despite another 3000 miles. :o

I'd expect some upturn in Spring, but not this much. Is this the market "catching up", or is the aggressive pricing of duffers by dealers still skewing things?

Our old friend appears to have headed south  been for sale around the Northwest for at least 6 months , down as low as £12995 last December now at a half decent indy dealer in Sussex https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/z4-roadster/bmw-z4-m-roadster--factory-navigation/7132963
