Correct, Ed's car is stunning and a very fair price.

I'd still take the Z4M over a 2.7 Cayman, I was looking at Cayman S' when considering what to buy and they just aren't as fun to drive IMO. Yes they are a great car, but they feel a bit numb a bit too dull. If I was having a 2 seater as a daily I'd go Cayman S, just seems an easier car to live with.

The S54 by comparison felt raw, the car feels like it wants to rev high and much more characterful and urgent than the Cayman.

There are a couple of S50 Z3Ms for sale >40k, that must make your blood boil Darren?

That's exactly why I have been considering other options :).
I haven't seen Ed's car for sale, I shall have a look.
Regarding losing 15k on both other options -but you're getting a much newer car (or brand new in the case of the Cayman) and in the case of the cayman 3 year warranty too, oh and 36-ish MPG :). MPG doesnt matter but when you add it into the mix too........
Agree the current dealer prices are where the market is currently at but for me it's too high for what I would be willing to pay for one.

I suspect many current owners if you didn't already own one would probably consider them not worth the current dealer prices if you had owned one before or even if not owned one before you may think twice about paying the current rate anyway.

If I had £20-25k to spend on a weekend car, I'd still chose the Z4MC....

No, definately not and neither does the Z4 M prices affect me - would like one but if not it doesn't matter.
I wouldn't pay >40k for a Z3 M either :)

£19k for a 9 year old car with 43k miles that was £40-50k new is a lot however even if people are paying it (IMO anyway :) ). They are rare of course,but too young to be classics, and also have a few negatives too(some interior items cheap looking, build quality variable etc). I do wonder if that's why we're seeing a few short term owners as they either see the potential to sell with no loss and maybe a gain, or they're not seeing value in their purchases.

I've been considering a 2012 M3 at £36k (where the new price was £70k) with 5k miles on it and one owner. Sure it's double the cost but compared to what you get it's looking a bargain compared to these,albeit a different kind of car I know.And even if it depreciated more it's still a bargain - look at what you get to begin with technology wise at least.

And to put it into perspective, and granted it wouldn't be as fast under acceleration (but on track probably would be), but a brand new Porsche Cayman 2.7 base price is £39k - just a little over double the price of a 9 year old ZM at these dealer prices and all you need is a few M specific part problems (our of warranty) and the cost to own could be greater.

for £19k, I am going to go get myself a V8 M3 convertible...by 2016, I am convinced they'll be down to 15-17k for convertibles....

There does seem to be a bubble in older cars right now. Over the last 18-24 months or so, even slightly mundane but interesting cars in the 04-10 range seem to have stayed still and not continued to depreciate, or have actually appreciated.

I'd be weary about buying a car for more than it could have cost you a year or two ago on the idea that it's going up because it's a future classic and will retain that value. Just look at what happened in 2008 to car values!

Hexagon and Hurlingham are stubbornly keeping the price fixed on those low mileage coupes, haven't budged yet in several weeks.

Purely my opinion but I don't really care much for local car dealers and whatever reputation they might have, personally I would only want to drop that kind of money on a car like that from a main dealer... purely for nothing else other than peace of mind (someone will inevitably argue that this doesn't make a car any better, and I agree). Perhaps these indie garages need to consider that it doesn't really matter how reputable and highly they think of themselves, they're not a main dealer and their prices need to reflect that.

Apologies I don't recall his/her name but someone who's recently signed up here very quickly snapped up the Sepang MC from Sytner @ £28k, it was gone in days, yet the Hexagon MC still sits there at £30k.

Watch someone come along and buy it now and prove me wrong haha 8)

Interesting because when I approached them about the £21,850 red one they only wanted to budge "a few hundred pounds". After hearing that I didn't bother approaching them again- I wasn't that bothered about buying it.
I did mention I would be interested in the Sepang one at a lower price but they didn't get back to me although my approach was through one of the other Sytner dealers who I was talking about other cars with rather than the one the car was at (which is fine to do usually). Maybe they had me down as "not serious " :) but still get emails form them about others, or maybe you had already secured it by then. I was thinking region of 24-25k

Well I didn't specifically say you bought it for that 8) I was referring to the advertised price. If you managed to paying nothing like £28k you should share these bargaining tips and maybe write a book, you'd make millions teaching people how to haggle a main dealer down to nothing like the asking price.
