M market watch

Interesting you should say that. I just had a quick look on an M3 forum and on the first page there's someone looking for a new engine.
Goes to show warranties are crap as he says:
'My warranty company have said its due to water ingress, on that basis they have declined my claim. A management light came up on the dash and i took it into BMW'

Problem was - 'The bottom end of the engines gone, i think there's a common issue where the crank bearings fail.'

So the biggest failure (or one of) a car can have and the warranty hasnt even covered it. From what they say it's a aftermarket warranty (rather than BMW)

Yea.....

Only the full BMW (Mondial) may pay out on an engine... And there are stories of them wiggling...

Like many M engines or "S" model engines i should say,the crank bearings are a weak point.. Last time i was in the BMW workshop in Cheshire, they had 2 E92 M3 engines out,and one was under 12 months old....

Personally i think, much like the E60 M5 that your common man will back away from the over complication cars with huge repair price tags.. Not bad if you have the money to buy new or keep your M car in warranty, but when they become to 6-7 years old and they filter down to the likes of the more skint enthusiast(me),then it could easily bankrupt you if anything was to pop..

Well, the temptation is there.
Lottery winners car who bought new and had to sell to fund further renovation work to the house they bought.
Even watched a little TV while listening to the engine note. Unfortunately was unable to get it out for a drive.

4*** miles on it

Silver/grey tho... :?
Z4MC's look awesome in that colour but I personally prefer the loud or standout colours on a M3, again stressing it's only personal opinion but that looks, dare I say it, average? :o

Space grey. Bland colour but one that still passes as okay when sh** high with dirt. If it had black leather it would not be good though. As it would have to replace my daily driver the colour would be fine.
Interestingly they reckon it wouldn't be a massive amount more to get into a brand new M3/4 -but never talked actual figures. They did have an M4 there sold - sticker price £50k though!Ex-demonstrator. Lots of real carbon fibre inside - nice.

Thing is, it's very well loaded with optional equipment yet not a massive amount of £ more than the Sepang MC at Sytner. 4 years newer, lots of technology advancements ,lthough in the past I've already prefered minimalist and simple performance, less to go wrong for a start.
Think I'm getting old!
Get stuck in a traffic jam and can watch TV!

When I did a weekly commute between Bham and Newcastle I just mounted an iPad onto the dash and watched a load of pre-downloaded YouTube videos! Can't say I've ever felt a desire to watch endless repeats of Big Bang Theory or the other tripe you get on FreeView whilst I'm in the car! But I guess its a canny little option to have.
Each to their own but if I was in the market for and about to drop M3 money, I'd avoid that colour even if it ticked all the other boxes. Having said that though, that particular gen of M3 doesn't seem to have very aggressive styling.

Ooh that is nice! Those potential engine issues would concern me a little though, I know all cars have their niggles but yikes, the potential of a new engine?! That is exactly what put me off purchasing a pre facelift boxster/Cayman/911 :headbang:

I like that a lot. Got any more pictures?

Few more but not very good pics (not all of car) - was rushing a bit.
I wouldnt be too converned about the issues if I did buy - it's the bad stories you read about. Considering how many were sold it's probably very low numbers with the expensive issues.
The leather seemed to be like extended leather but not sure if that was std on the M3's - but that's defiantely leather down the side of the centre console.

Looks classy to me ,especially the interior & alloys
i would gradually intoroduce some black bits AKA Dubseeds ZM & you'd have a low mileage V8 ///Masterpiece on your hands ,

It needs something that says M3. For me it's a bit understated. An E46 M3 was obvious from a mile off.

That's what I was trying to get at, nowt wrong with the colour but it looks bland, squint and it looks like any other 3 series coupe. But a simple rim change could sort that out

Santorini Blue is my fave on these.
A friend is looking to buy a Monte Carlo Blue Edition one at the moment, he's going from a 3.0l Z4 Roadster.

Asking is nearly £38k but fairly sure there's 3k less to be negotiated, maybe more.
1 owner from new, July 12 registered, 4780 miles I think.
Most of the additional spec is:
Front armrest with sliding adjustment.Seven-speed double clutch transmission.Comfort Access.BMW Individual audio system.High-gloss Shadowline exterior trim.TV function.Adaptive headlights.Rear electric window blind.Extended storage.BMW Apps interface.Sun protection glass.DAB digital radio.12V power sockets.Enhanced Bluetooth telephone functionality.Heated front seats.BMW Assist.Voice control system.Climate comfort windscreen.Electronic damper control.Telephone USB audio interface.19" M Double-spoke alloy wheels.Electric folding exterior mirrors.Front and rear park distance control (PDC).High beam assistant, cruise control, CD change preparation, sat nav, rain sensor with auto lights.

Don't mind the understated look personally-the sound should make up for that.
Will have a chat with a colleague who picked a 4 door recently on an 11 plate for about £27k with 15-18k miles - think it's fairly low specced.

Also had a silver Z4 3.0Si Coupe there today with 77 k miles for £10950 ! Had a good look around it but as a second car it would have to be an M. If I do go for an M3 it would be sole car.

Wouldn't take many miles onto the 3yr old / 5k before your £35k starts to look like its been through a bacon slicer
Throw £12k/£15k into a 650i for weekends ? a little less BHP but more extras :?
