M market watch

Appears to be 29 M Coupes for sale in Autotrader at the moment - is that a record?
It was pretty predictable & imo a sign of the price difference between the MR & MC having reached (& breached it would seem ) the point where demand to own a Z4M swung in favour of the roadster that offered similar thrills for approx 30% less ££ invested .
The roadster market right now hasn't changed in the past 4 years in terms of values / miles & decent cars sell pretty easily with not many currently available for those looking to buy .
MCs on the other hand have slid in both demand ( numbers for sale reflect this ) & residuals slipping back to where they were 3-5 yrs ago .
After enjoying a significant price difference from the MR for a good few years they reached a peak 18months - 2yrs ago & since then its been a noticeable fall back in values for them .
Right now if i was after a decent 70k MC id not want to be paying over £17k :o similar MR £14k ?
add 10k to the clock & drop £1500 of both those numbers , jmo thoughts of course , others may well disagree

The car market "tanked" really around early to mid 2018. The UK had the Brexit thing gaining momentum, inflation was roaring away driven by the availability of easy credit globally. The stage was set for a rerun of the GFC 2008 and the puff seemed to go off most big bang for buck cars like the Z4M coupes and roadsters, 993 and similar cars. And the top tier vehicles from Maranello, Stuttgart, Woking are all well off the boil. A million quid can buy you a proper car! The hype in the adverts seemed to step up a notch "better performer than money in the bank" "must appreciate," "Investment car" etc . Needless to say all these fancy terms seem to work in reverse, pushing the customers away
The electric car movements are gaining a larger market share, and then there is the ULEZ thing going on in London too.
Join the dots with the foregoing and now Covid19 in the mix, for us impecunious enthusiasts with a keen eye some good opportunities are beginning to surface. You can easily apply this to the increasing numbers of 4M roadsters and coupes coming on the market. This poster is picking a fall off in both asking price and demand as you go into the European autumn then winter.

I would never understand how I would prefer to be ‘couped’ up in car as opposed to open roof driving just because someone thinks it’s rare. I am buying it to enjoy, not because I am expecting it to ‘rise’ in value. If it does thats fine.

I respect its fans though, I just don’t get the ‘It’s better’ argument.

I prefer the looks and the fact it NOT a convertible so I bought a coupe. If it goes up in value then cherry on the cake.

That's exactly why I've also only owned Coupes.

In 40+ years I've never owned a convertible of any description and still don't want one, although I appreciate that most people on here probably prefer them!

But I don't think either is better, they're just different so it's simply a matter of personal preference.

Snaking over an Alpine pass, blasting down the Route Napoleon, roaring through the Arlberg tunnel, helter skeltering the old military road from Grantown to Ballater, swooping along the B3212 and so on; it may not be as sharp as a coupe but the roadster sure will be more exhilarating! :driving:

As I read your post, I was expecting the last line to read,
“You might not get a suntan, but the coupe sure will be more exhilarating and feel so much more special in every way!”
I was rather taken aback to see you promoting the roadster for anything other than driving from the salon to brunch with the girls :P

Ouch! But then the salon would be in Murmansk and brunch would be with the girls of St. Tropez!

That airbox is a thing of beauty & hard to understand why the seller isn't selling it separately

So the MC in the colour hardly anyone chose has just been relisted at a lower price - but still way to dear IMO!

Most likely stock airbox & 224s 8) I don't think it looks ott for what I see

That's a bargain with all those choice bits on it. Very nice car!

I also think the white one is a good buy if you can keep it for 5+ years. It'll be a rare thing that, will command very good money in years to come.

£30k for a 50k MC :?
Mods , this account has been hacked
I don't care what colour the car is only Peter Pan would see that as a good buy

Well Mr Wilks, Peter Pan is in NZ, with his buddy Pinocchio,(aka Haggisman) and we both agree with you  As to being worth more in years to come, unlikely, unless rampant inflation occurs again. Certainly won't for the next 3 years minimum.

I would have said that 10 years ago when you could pick up a Laguna Seca Blue e46 for less than a Carbon Black one....now they are double the value of those cars.
