M market watch

Hi there, new to the forum but been in the market for a Z4MC for a few months now.

I went to see the Imola Red one at Follifoot Motors but as a previous poster has mentioned I don't think it's worth the asking price.

Some of the issues I found were:
Front end heavily chipped
Bumper had been repainted but colour was quite some way off that of the bonnet
Multiple scuffs on the leather interior, esp near the gaiter
Compartment between the seats hiding the DVD changer was without a hinge
PDC not working
Driver's seat doesn't go up or down
Brake discs & pads were in need of replacing

I took it out for a spin and it did drive well. The dealer did say he would rectify the last 4 issues for the asking price but I still thought it was too expensive for its condition.

I'm not trying to knock the dealer, I know a 74k mile car won't be in mint condition but I thought by listing the issues it might help out a fellow forum member and save them a trip. If anyone would like some more info or pics feel free to pm me.

Hope to find a suitable Z4MC soon!

You should have messaged me, I would have told you not to bother. Its definitely not worth nearly 18K. If you want to see a nice car with high miles, go look at the one at Cramag, its in way better shape and cared for properly, serviced spot on, seats look great but the milage is 90K

Sepang M Coupe at a bargain price for the mileage.

I'm almost tempted myself if it doesn't turn out to be one of the CAT registered ones.

Yes, looks a cracking buy, on the surface at least. The near side headlight washer cap is mismatched though and why not have the wheels refurbished in 5 years of ownership? Minor points I know, but makes me think what else may of been neglected.

Worth a look for prospective buyers and if it all checks out it would be a bit of bargain.

The headlamp cover is just in primer from the factory.

Who says the wheels haven't been refurbished though? Yes one need doing, but so does one of mine after a tyre was fitted, and they were only done 2 years ago. Both minor points and something to negotiate around.

It looks to need a bit of TLC, (and a close look at the nearside light, where the gaps look wide), but I paid a lot more for my Sepang, so there should be plenty of margin for any repairs, and I can honestly say that every time I look at the colour I never regret the price I paid!

Mind you, mine's worth a lot more as the dashboard doesn't suffer the BMW Navigation system!! :?

The seller does;

one wheel could do with a refurb, a few kerb marks( previous owner),

I agree, minor points but why put such a nice car to market with them present. In my experience of buying (lots) of cars, they're usually cheap for a reason and these minor points may lead to other issues. They may not and it may be a bargain though!

I viewed that car and didn't bother with a test drive.

Poorly repaired drivers door and sill. Looks like it has taken a fair hit on the side.

Drivers seat doesn't go up or down as the button is missing and seems to be in line with the sill damage.

I would put money on a BMW dealer getting what they want and having a good idea of the market.

I'm new to M ownership and watched the market for a few years, my thoughts were if I don't get one this year I probably will not be able to afford a top example.

Its just market inflation dealers buying them up! A few years ago they wouldn't have touched the car because of their age and mileage now the dealers are snapping up 10 year old 30-80k examples. Capitalisation and taking advantage of people who aren't in the know.

But tbf you cant blame them and its a buyers market, one quick check will show average cost etc

I don't think the car will sell for 20 its a nice car but for an M it is short on spec and has some interesting history that may make a buyer think twice. I think it will sell for £16.5 to £17.5 probably in a years time when many people have passed on it.

have you seen the price of z3m.

Your looking at 15k for a 90k mile one, it was only 4-5 years ago you could pick one up for 7-8k.
I image BMW seeing the Z4 going the same way, along with traders like Target who seem to buy up Z4s and TVRs along with others.
