///M front fitted

Well having practised my spraying skills on my daughter's 1 series and got a pretty good result, it was time to do the ///M bumper for the Zed.

Filled, flatted, primed, top coats, few of lacquer, allowed to harden, wet sanded and mopped.

Here's an early shot just from the iphone. Since been sealed, waxed and the short number plate plinth added. Match is perfect now sealed and waxed despite oddities of photos and light, without having had to blend in.

Really pleased and with 3 bumpers in line to do and at about £25 a go it's a great little project to play with.

Quit the day job............make a profession out of it. :)
Did you mention what gun you used?

I like sterling grey M front with grey kidneys.

You did a fantastic job

Thanks guys - I'll never be a pro, and it makes you admire the top ones even more, but I just like doing this sort of stuff on a hobby basis.

Have to say though the 'new' 2 pack is real nasty stuff and requires proper mask and ventilation, unlike the old cellulose days.

That looks really nice CJ  bit cheaper than my 175 quid I paid to have mine painted. Nice set of 224's would finish it all off nicely :poke:

Great Work cj10 jeeper !
You moderate, spray paint and pass on BMW Tech Bulletins too ...
You are a do it yerselfer in a day when that is becoming a lost art for most.

Im waiting til spring to install my M Bumper.
It's resting in the basement over winter.
No sense in using it to plow the roads over here.

Thanks for sharing

Bumpy

PS ..Did you colour match the kidney grills ?

Great job. A truly unique zed which, like Ranski's is a credit to the forum.

Love the OEM+ look.

It's given me motivation to fit my M front

Not forgetting he's an all round nice guy as well.

Good work Phil.

I think you've done a top job. I am slowly getting tempted by an M bumper for my coupe.

+1

I'd say an innovator too... I have had led's for 3 years now which i wanted to fit into my door pulls like you did!

Random related question did you fabricate your own undertray extension or get an M one?

If you got the M one did you do anything to make the foam extend up to the radiator? I have been meaning to do that to mine all year... I hate how i can see a gap there through the grill!

Thanks for the kind comments guys. You embarrass me...

Several questions:

The gun is just a half decent one I picked up at a trade show for a few quid. Compressor is an Aldi job with tank, pressure regulators and wall mounted extending hose. Nice bit if kit to a low price.

Undertray extension actually came with the bumper as did the brackets, ducts, lower grille, sliders, etc, Had to mod the OEM corner parts of the undertray with a bit of cutting. Would buy ///M's but are £90 each.

Upper grilles are OEM 3.0 prefacelift. I just think they look 'right' with the rest of the mods.

I really like the bumper as it's freshened the front up and neatly matches up to the quad rear set up, sideskirts and wheels.

Question of ///M or those who've retrofitted. Do you leave the brake ducts 70% blocked up or remove the plate?

I presume opened fully is for track as normal road use would create a high pressure zone in the wheel arch that reduces economy through reduced aerodynamics down the side of the car.

That question above is too technical for me cj :P

However, that looks lovely - great that it has taken you so long to do it as well. Whilst I can see the attraction of doing everything as fast as possible once you know how much can be done and you have the cash, there's something to be said for extending the pleasure of evolution over time

I left mine in Phil

Somewhere on the forum is a thread on this, with some detailed explanations on why the ducts are covered - However I've done a search but cant find it

I'm thinking they shoudl remain 1) to keep the under wing air pressure low after all they spend ages trying to do this with small flaps unter the arch to reduce air flow and 2) I don't need masses of cooling.

If you find soemthing technical let me know.
