Just had discs and pads all round from BMW costs £1175 all in. Z4MR

Sounds expensive to me. I had my fronts fitted for less than £500 at Stratstone Chesterfield (Z4MC).

Just checked the invoice. I was slightly optimistic. The parts for my front disks and pads were £500 and labour was £60 so all in £560. I think that included a bit of diagnostic on the near side front caliper failure too. So to do both front and rear ought to be around £1,000 max at a main dealer I would've thought.

Yeah main dealer, also new shoes on handbrake..all in parts and labour. It's about right for what was done from a stealer.

Wow!

Just went to have a look to see if I could find an old thread about Ring public day insurance and came across this! Its quite an eye opener and makes for interesting reading all these various theories, firstly Ash thank you for being a decent human being and your a proper decent chap to meet in person and online with your own commentary

I've had 3 m's as a number of posts refer to but am a useless with a spanner and could not change a brake pad if I needed too, let alone front discs hence why I always used a garage and rely on professional advice as to what is required and when. Its the primary reason I started using forums as a source of knowledge as frankly I had none and could double check what am being told by mechanics ! So I respond to the points raised, as I have nothing to hide

Z4MC

MOT - Was done in August 2014 by a Scottish MOT tester , passed with no advisories

I bought the car two weeks later, and took it the next day to CarCare in Tetbury – for a full “MOT Check” and was advised everything was ok and it was all fine, am not a big fan of them as they tend to find work generally but wanted piece of mind. I always get my cars checked after purchase. - Paperwork provided

All the work that was carried out was what I was told by the garages it went too , if I was told they were wrong they would have been changed so as discussed with Ash am at a lost to why it was never picked up.

So it went to :

Neil Gariner - Highly regarded a respected garage - All paperwork provided - Inspections and work carried out

Emtec - Proclaimed BMW Independent specialist - All paperwork provided - Inspections and work carried out

Wheels were swapped over by tyre garage in Tetbury as frankly its easier to pay them 20 quid to do it......

As you can see in the pictures the car that was advertised was clearly the car purchased , no proclaimed experts on here noticed and neither did I. I did 780 miles in that car and it pretty much sat in my garage for the rest of the time. If I cannot rely one of the 3 to pick it up? not sure what I can do (Other than find a new garage I guess :/ ) ... clearly it raising questions about them. Am most disappointed by Neil as I have used him for years and it works on some of the best metal around.

I love how I have been assumed guilty and some sort of shark that knowingly sold it with incorrect brakes size. I clearly noticed they had been replaced and I incorrectly assumed they were just non-oem brakes and personally gave it no more thought. As the issue of course is there an incorrect size , not that there non-oem. If I had know this situation they simply would have been replaced . The garage would have told me (should) and I would have added it to the bills, I would never in danger my own life let alone anyone else , and frankly the accusation that I have knowingly is disgusting get a f**king grip!

There zero evidence other than misplaced opinions, loads of users are jumping up and down about something that they know nothing about the actual situation. If you want someone to blame its the garages there the paid professionals at £75 per hour to fix the car and carry out the work. Lets not forget its the buyers reasonability to carry out there own checks before committing to a purchase. I gave Ash as much time as he want to test drive the car, look over it , send as many pictures of every angle he wanted , anything that was requested or desired I would do my best to help, this is vouched by his buying experience himself.

Adverts:

Every car I have ever sold I delete the advert check my history there is zero malice in it , I just would prefer to protect my data.

Sold Zeds:

To Billy Beemer I sold it for 500 quid more than I paid you for it , and its the same price the trader was offering it to me for it against the XKR my advice would be if you need to “fire sell” something speak to some traders first, I made you an offer via ebay you accepted it. Tomtvr a friend of mine for years bought it from me at the same price the trader offered me. I sold it quickly as the chance to own the best car I have had yet could not be missed.

Clearly chaps your welcome to your own view and am not going to change your interpretation if its already made, its only the people I have met over the years view that really matters to me. So yeah I think it might be fair to say it might be the end ... shame always want to get to 3000 posts never mind.

It’s mostly been good and constructive times

I take it that your sending the buyer a set of discs and pads or money for the remedial work done then?

Looks much better  Hope it all gets sorted soon and you can enjoy her.

Just out of interest when you get the old discs off can you measure them. They might be 330 discs and if they are i will still buy them off you.

Some nice wear on these....must be about a 8mm lip on them EE40147E-40C6-437D-80B5-0F8ED3BD973D_zpspqaegf7i.jpg

Wow :o

And the first time I've ever seen a lip only on the inside of a disc.

Z4M + BING - your telling me! My Indy said they have never seen nothing like it! Just glad it's all done and all I can say it's a completely different car, the car it should have been when I bought it, feels more solid and I feel comfortable driving it.

Monkey- not yet I shall measure them in the morning for you

Good glad your car is now tip top and above all SAFE!!

Now did you measure the diameter of the disc??????

Just measured them, they are 330mm roughly

OK cool i think the 3.0l ones are 300mm so these would be bigger. Can anyone confirm that for me? I will look tonight if no one can.

So what would you want for them if i was to want them??????

Hi Mat see below

3.0i/2.5si are 300mm

3.0si are 325mm

I expect these are 325mm disc's for a 3.0si
