M Front Bumper Parking Sensors

Hi,

I've recently purchased a M Sport front bumper to go on my 2.2 Z4. Now the mbumper needs some work doing to it one of which is cutting some holes for the parking sensors.

What I would like to know is; does anyone know what diameter the new holes should be? How do you remove the parking sensors from the old bumper and is there a template that I can use to mark out the new holes?

Oh, do I cut the holes and then have it sprayed and fixed or cut holes afterwards?

Thanks,
M

The front bumper never had parking sensors on the zed. It was placed in the number plate holder.

Is this a aftermarket solution or something?

I've got the factory fitted parking sensors on the front only. They are colour coded to the body work and look just like what you would have on the rear (that most people have). I can post a picture if needed.

That's the first I've heard of it... How do you activate it?

Most things you could do by measuring really.

I would cut the holes first personally... You probably want to leave the expensive part last.

Likewise, never heard of it, must be after market.

Pics of sensors and operation button would confirm.

The e89 Z4 is available with front PDC sensors. Are you sure you haven't been sold a e89 M-Sport bumper :P

Okay so I'll cut the holes first and then get is sprayed up. I'm sure it's a E85/86 M bumper, I've done my research and they aren't any more on eBay unlike the E89 ones.

You activate the sensors by a little rocker switch mounted into the dashboard just above where the open/close button is for the roof. U can turn it on and off when you like! So what's the best method of getting the sensors out of the old bumper? Heat gun?

That sounds more and more like an aftermarket set-up then.

Here is an old picture of the car - you can see the front parking sensors mounted on the bumper...

Here is another close up shot of the parking sensor - so are these aftermarket ones then? I was told that they were factory fitted ones (they certainly look like it anyway)

Guaranteed aftermarket. They were possibly dealer fit though, BMW dealers will often fit a 'close to OEM' kit for a customer if they want TI at an extortionate price. Your sensors are raised, OEM ones are recessed and as said, they don't do them for the front on the E85/86 anyway. The rocker switch is the main give away, it would be a button in line with the roof button and heated seats if it was OEM.

Ive never seen those on a z4 before....

got a picture of the activation switch inside the car?

There is a Silver Grey Z4Mr with them like that, front and rear

I'll post a picture of the car's switch when I get a chance this weekend - so any idea on how to remove these without damaging them?

think you will find they just pull out from the front as they are retained by spring clips. You will need to trace the wire to the control unit though which I'm guessing will be near the bulkhead and possibly in the cabin.

No drilling required
