M-Factory LSD for E85/E86

M-Factory Limited slip differential fitted with a 3.07 ring gear and in a 188k housing. So should bolt directly into most E85/E86/E46.

This thing transforms a Z4, they really should have been fitted at the factory. The M-factory diff is impressive, equal in quality to a Quaiffe, and has been faultless in my ownership.

Originally supplied by Grinspeed, the UK M-factory dealer, they are about £900 new for the unit, before you get it fitted into a housing.

This is ready to go, you could bolt it in on your drive in 3hrs or so.

Difficult to photo a diff, but I’m more than willing to crack off the rear cover for interested parties to inspect it if they want.

LSD has covered about 40k miles, Faultlessly. The casing has a total mileage of about 100k. The LSD is helical, like a Quaife, so no clutch packs to wear out.

Just to throw it out there fitting an lsd to my old si coupe was one of the best mods I did - much better grip, more transparent at or past the limit and a right hoot on snow days :lol: I got a right bollocking from the work security manager for getting in early and drifting the business park one way system in the snow last Feb :rofl:

So yes in summary highly recommend this mod to anyone on the fence about it - works seamlessly with the cars dtc, and really tangibly improves the drive!

Better is somewhat subjective I guess. They are two different types of lsd. The Oem diff in the M cars is a plate diff as far as I understand. These are good as they should still lock if one wheel has zero traction, but over time the friction plates will wear and locking ability will suffer and eventually fail. The M-factory/Quaiffe diffs are helical worm gear units, and as such can never really wear out. The shortcoming is due to the lack of preload, they struggle to lock if one wheel is in a zero traction situation eg ice, wheel hopping etc. In my opinion, plate diffs come into there own on track, while helical gear diffs are ideal for road applications.

Yes, 3.07 is the FD ratio. Fitted as is, it would lengthen your gear ratios, sadly. The 3.07 was a pre-facelift manual ratio.

LSD’s certainly can be fitted to automatics, with all the benefits of additional traction and more predictability beyond the limit.
