M engine conversion

Has anybody on here dropped the M/engine into there e85 3.0 as they can be picked up fairly cheaply these days and it just got me thinking!!

I believe someone itemised the other parts you would also need to make it work and it became quite costly; most decide its then not worth the bother considering you can sell your 3.0 and put the difference towards buying one outright + considering insurance and residuals.

There was a 90,000 mspec engine inc all ancils plus engine wiring loom that sold for just over £500 that seemed a bit of a bargain to me.

Then add the diff (or a new one), recoding and all the gremlins that can bring, exhausts and rear bumper, moving the battery...

You'd be better off buying the motor and hoping someone else's goes boom. Or recon it and sell on. IMHO.

IMHO unless you really like your car and are happy not to recoup your investment and from personal experience

If you want a M buy a M

+1. Unless your doing the labour yourself there's no point. Even then, on top of that the engine is already on 90k, re-sale value will be low as most will just want to buy an original M with original matched engine and chassis. Sourcing all the other original M parts, bodywork, diff etc will cost a fortune from new and a long time second hand as they are not often scrapped and probs not good condition.
As a project for yourself to do in the background if you've got the time, knowledge, money and tools then it would probably be quite interesting to do. Otherwise kinda pointless. And when you say M spec engine, from a Z4 or M3? As they use a different DME and wiring loom between the two.

There's another thread on here about putting a big F**k Off Turbo into a smaller engine to make it faster or similar to an M.

Putting the M engine into another car will probably reduce the value of the original car. Would you really buy a car that''s advertised as a "One Off"?

Although if you want an M, don't mind the slightly extra costs of Insurance, etc then the best option is to buy an M.

At your end of the Channel, swaping doesn't way up to buying an M on the mainland and in the USA that isn't al that sure as prices of M cars are way higher than the costs of a swap or a supercharger system.

If you want a ///M buy one, theres just too much expense and gremlins, or do a V8 but then again unique but VERY expensive and a labour of love.
If your attacthed to your Zed then why not S/C it, the EES kit is extremly powerful and on a strong engine like urs will be able to push some bhp out, and can always be returned to stock if you every decide then to sell.

Who are you and what have you done with Jonny?

I say good luck to you Rob. And he didn't say he wanted to build an M. If you can get one cheap and you can do the work yourself. And you like doing this kind of thing. Then good on ya.

It could be a nice sleeper if you dont do body work mods to look like an M. Or charge or turbo the engine have the exhaust coming out of the front wing blowing flames.. It will be mental!!

He died due to the BBK failing remember

still wating for the part-out of the wreckage

I was not going along the lines as its got to look like an M car i just wanted that extra 100hp under the bonnet after coming from a 350 plus hp cobra replica it feels a bit tame to me plus when i built the cobra i changed the engine 3 times for different types of engine gearbox combinations so this doe's not phase me but the sensors electrical issues will be the part that i might stumble on or need advice.

If you can and you want it do it
Nice winter project putting it in. Nice summer project building an older higher millage engine
I would look at a LSD diff swap. I put an M factory (not a M diff) in my car and that made a world of difference.

I like my car to look nice but i would sooner be tinkering or getting my hands dirty on the mechanical stuff and upgrading things rather than polishing cleaning it all the time as i find that boring as hell.

Agreed but my cars paint sucks so that might have a big factor on that!
